Assignment of the season's 97 name roles came Saturday evening, when directors gath ered to cast the four Shake spearean productions. Casting of the Festival's special dance-music produc tion of "A Thieve's Ballad" will bring the total name roles to 102, distributed among a 33-member acting company. Rehearsals began immedi ately Sunday afternoon in preparation for the July 21 launching of the six week run. Popular Perform Popular performers from previous seasons gained key assignments this year. Charles Taylor, in Ashland for his third summer, will be seen as Cominius in "Coriola nus," Northumberland in "Henry IV, Part II," Corin in "As You Like It," and, the Merchant in "Comedy of Er rors." In his third Ashland season, Les Carlson returns as Orlando in "As You Like It" and as Shadow in "Henry IV, Part II." Producing Director Angus L. Bowmer will repeat his successful role as Silence in "Henry." In her fifth per formance season, Shirley Pat- ton will appear as Doll Tear sheet in "Henry." Michael i Fuchs. in his third Ashland season, will play Duke Senior in "As You Like It," Angelo in "Comedy," and the Arch bishop in "Henry." Three - season veteran Mi chael Addison, 1962's Festival stage manager, portrays Fang in "Henry." Hugh Evans, Drugger in the 1961 "Alchem ist," will mark his fifth Ash land summer playing Shallow in "Henry." Directing 1962's "Comedy of Errors" and ap pearing as Warwick in "Hen ry" will be veteran actor director Jerry Turner. Performers from 1961 Featured performers from 1961 have again drawn im portant roles for their second round in Ashland, peter Mac Lean (Claudius in "Hamlet") gained the title roles in "Co riolanus" and "Henry IV, Part II." along with Antipho lus of Ephesus in "Comedy of Errors." Rod Alexander (1961's King Henry IV) will perform Mcnenius in "Corio lanus." Elizabeth Huddle (Dol.Com mon in "Alchemist") returns as Rosalind in "As You Like It," Mistress Quickly in "Hen ry," and Luce in "Comedy of Errors." The Player Queen in "Hamlet" in 1961, Susan Brewer, will be seen as -Vo-lumnia in "Coriolanus" and as Adriana in "As You Like It." England, portrays Aufidius in "Coriolanus," Oliver in "As You Like II," Pistol in "Hen ry," and Solinus in "Com edy." Stacy Keach (Univer sity of California) will be An tipholus of Syracuse in "Com edy" and Westmoreland in "Henry." Adolph Caesar, New York university, will appear in Ashland as Gower in "Hen ry" and Adam in "As You Like It." Kirk Mee of the Ste phens college acting company will be seen as Dromio of Syracuse in "Comedy," Wil liam in "As You Like 11," and as the Porter in "Henry." Mi chael Percival, Stanford, will do Prince Hal in "Henry" and Amiens in "As You Like It."
