Star route 1. box 520, Trail, who did th portrait, wat leaving clan one evening. Sh carrid th picture with another into a hall to be taken to the car. On arriving home, the discovered the portrait wat missing, but the other pic ture vvai in the car. School officials checked the surrounding rooms and halls, but could not find it. Th picture is unsigned. The portrait is a friend of Mrs. Brill and sh it anxious to raclaim it. Any on who might know th wheraabouls of th paint ing is asked to contact Mrs. Brill. Box 252 By NOFdUA CLARK Variety of Activities Planned In Summer Recreation Program The Medford park and rec reation department hat again planned a variety of activities as part of its summer recrea tion program, according to Robert L. Haworth, depart ment director. Among programs to be car ried out this summer during school vacation months are a baseball clinic and league play, a Softball league, tennis Car Leaves Highway, Hits Power Pole A car driven by Charles Benjamin Young, 18, of 3473 Chicory lane, Mcdford, went over a bank and struck a pow er pole along Highway 99 south of Medford early Sat urday morning, state police said. The Young car was involv ed in an accident with a car driven by John James Kam ody, 19, of 902 King St., police said. No injuries were reported. classes and competition, a va riety of playground activities, and instruction in gymnastics, tumbling, trampoline, baton twirling, and swimming. Swimming classes at Haw thorne and Jackson pools will be divided into four 11-day session this summer: the first will begin June 18 and end June 29; the second from July 9 to July 20; third from July 23 to Aug. 3; and fourth from Aug. 8 to Aug. 17. Family Swimming Family swimming at both pools will be scheduled each week day from 5:30 to 7 p.m.. Classes for all levels of swimming ability have been arranged, as well as courses in junior and senior lifesav ing. John Kovenz, Medford High school baseball coach, will supervise the summer baseball clinic and league play. The classes will start at 8:30 a.m., June 18, and will con tinue through June 29 at the Medford High school baseball field. Each boy will be expected to furnish hit own baseball glove, with baseball shoes be ing optional. Other equipment will be furnished by the parks and recreation department. When the clinic is complet ed, playground teams will be formed and games will be played all summer in the Sandblowers league. The schedule will be announced later. Anyone interested in play ing in either the Jackson Countv Softball league or In the Medford Church league this summer should contact the recreation department In the city hall by calling 773 7355. Girls Softball Registration for girls soft ball (fourth through seventh grades) will be accepted at any supervised playground. An inter-playground league will be formed if interest war rants, Haworth said. Registration in tennis in struction for students from grades six through high school will be held at the Medford High school tennis courts at 8:30 a.m. Monday, June 25. A fee of $1 will be charged beginners and intermediates; advanced student fee is $2. Tennis classes will be con ducted Monday through Thurs day each week for six weeks, beginning June 28. Tennis balls will be furnished by the department, but each student will need a racket, tennis shoes and appropriate cloth ing. Boys and girls' competi tive teams will be selected from the members of the ad vanced classes, and home-and-home matches will be sched uled with city teams from Grants Pass and Klamath Falls. Doubles and singles tourna ments are planned at the con clusion of the summer tennis program. Bob Huff, Medford ' High school tennis coach, will supervise the program. Haworth said that adult classes In tennis may be of fered this summer if there j is sufficient demand. Cooperate With Schools i In cooperation with the pro gram by the Medford public schools, a broad offering of playground activities is sched uled for the summer recrea tion program, including games, sports, social activities. ! arts and crafts, music and drama, nature lore and special events. j Supervised by recreation I leaders, the activities are to be I centered at Howard, Jackson, i Washington and Jefferson i schools, and at Hawthorne park.
