Mckvold, superintendent of Jackson county tchools, at a luncheon meeting of the Branchfield for State Repre sentative Committee at the Jackson House. The informal speech, fol lowed by a question and an swer discussion, is one of a series planned to orient the committee on subjects of con cern to the state legislature, according to Campaign Man ager Sam B. Harbison. Speak ers wishing to discuss other issues and problems affecting Jackson county are welcome to attend a future meeting and should make arrange ments by calling Harbison at 773-5331. mmmm Pickin' Peart By SID HOLL1NGS WORTH Ray Oliver is rfioing fine work in recreation with the musicians and stage talent of one kind or another. But in producing talent shows, like all producers on stage and screen, he has his troubles. He put together an entirely satisfactory talent perform ance Friday night on the sp'ir of the moment. The show he planned for the evening and for which his Rrnup of actors had rehearsed fell apart when his star performer had to go to the infirmary, indisposed. His Astronaut musicians came to the rescue with the aid of three guest artists from the Muzzioli accordion band, Johnny and Billy Landau and Charles Anselmi, Then an other volunteer came forward ' in the person of Jimmy Ad ams, who is Chaplain F razee s assistant, and who sang negro spirituals. Changes Piano Slyla Louis Nichols, changing slvle at the piano, gave a fine interpretation of boogie woog ic. Arthur Thompson did se lections at the concert piano. Two amateurs, Jimmy Cleary and Robert Tobias, also were applauded, with Irish songs and harmonica tunes. Kenneth Haeckcr was mu sical director and he put to gether two numbers of hill billy and Scandanavian music. The Rogue Valley Vets in these numbers were Kenneth Haecker, Rcncy Baucher, Al fred Cank, Calvin Harris, Pat Fredericks, Bert Vastilica, Sid Johnson, Louis Nichols and Ray Oliver. The instrumental music in cluded piano and organ, fid dle and guitar, accordian, drums, trombone and base violin. Al Crank and Ray Oliver did a duct with guilar and drums and the Rogue River Vets concluded with a "hoe down" and "Turkey In the Straw," with all the company coming forward for the finale. Oliver was master of cere- Marie Renting, Red Cross hospital chief at the domicili ary, is something of a magi cian or fairy godmother. She waved her magic wand and the ycater was packed al the Red Cross variety show Wednesday night lust. It was a little show, a group n girls from McLoughlin Junior High, singing in har mony, and a boys trio with instruments and songs, from Mcdford High. They were well trained and well received by the audience. Refresh ments, as usual, followed. Postmaster Art Scarseth Is taking a well earned vacation this week at the World's Fair in Seattle.
