J7, P1-74-88.O01 Agness Boat Race Slated June 10; Power Line To Be Dedicated Durinq Event Agness-The Agness barbe cue and White Water Boat race, scheduled for Sunday June 10, will this year feature a power pole climbing con test, it was announced today by Bernard Jackson, general chairman of the event. In celebration of the com pletion of the power line, recently constructed up the Rogue river from Gold Beach, by Coos Curry Electric Co-op, the Agness celebration has been expanded to include a a power pole climbing con test, log bucking contest and the official dedication of the power line.' Invitations went out this week to employees of electri cal and telephone utilities in Coos, Curry, Lincoln and Douglas counties, to enter the contest and take part in the celebration. The big attraction of the event is the white water boat race which it run from Ag ness on the Rogue river up to Illahe and back again, a 16 mile course which is one of the toughest courses in the Northwest. Cash prizes and trophies, including the Gen eral's trophy, will be awarded to the four fastest times. The race is open to every one and all kinds of boats, with the record time of 20 minutes, 15 seconds being held by the 1960 winner, Al- den Boice. The General's tro phy, which is the coveted prize, must be won two years in a row to be kept by the winner. A field of 15 boats have al ready entered the race and chairman, Paul Stallard ex pects at least five or six more to enter. This will give it the largest number of entries in the six years of the event. Keeping the Rogue basin streams clear and clean for recreation and fish popula lion, is the theme of the Ag ness celebration this year and Don Lucas, chairman of the Agness Community council said he hopes that everyone will help in this effort.
