Jon Swanson took over and was the winner. Trcz Swangard hit a two run homer for Oregon in the third when the Ducks had their biggest inning with six runs. Advance Ticket Sales Up in AFL New York - IUPH - Commis sioner Pete Rozelle, reflecting the joy of most National Foot ball league club owners fol lowing their successful de fense of a damage suit by the young American Football league, announced today that advance sales of tickets for the 1062 season are up 10 per cent. Rozelle, who Is presiding at a meeting of NFL club of ficials here, said that if the trend continues the league could set a record high of more than 400,000 in season ticket advance sales. 'On the average throughout the whole league," Rozelle said, "sales are up 10 per cent. Last year's season ticket sale totaled 368,075. So at the cur- rent rate, the clubs' total should run about 405,000." (A CM "1 O G AFL Future Bleak After Suit Fails By HAL WOOD San Francisco - lliPli - The future of the American Foot ball league looked bleak, in deed, today in the wake of the failure of the anti trust suit against the seasoned Na ' tional league. I So bleak, in fact, that it would appear that some of the men involved must be spe ; cifically trying to gel rid of ! their money. How else can J one account for some of the statements from American league club owners? "We have high hopes of breaking even during the 1963 season," says Baron Hilton, owner of the San Diego Chargers. Hilton claims that his club failed to meet expenses dur ing the 1062 campaign despite the fact that the team's home attendance averaged nearly 30,000 per game, which was near capacity. While. About Raiders And if Hilton can't break even with that attendance what is going to happen at Oakland this year? The Raid crs are planning to play in a new, temporary park seating 22,000. If they fill home dates then they, ostensibly, would still be losing a bundle of money. Last year they av eraged only about 5,000 per game attendance, playing mostly at Candlestick in San Francisco. Robert L. Osborne, treas urer of the club, announced that the team dropped $619, 288.38 last year. He owned 17 per cent of the controlling in terest (of 51 per cent) and his personal losses for the year were $139,808.28. And he has sold his interest for $10,000. It is probable that the Raid ers were the biggest financial dud in the league last year. But the Denver Broncos, New York Titans, Boston Patriots and others must be taking a financial walloping, also. If the league had won the $10 million suit against the NFL, and the clubs had split up the proceeds, they still would have lost money, over the two-year period. Osborne figures his two-year excur sion into the land of sports cost him, personally, more than $200,000.
