Tillie A. - He never waits to have breakfast with us. Chester A. It's more appe tizing to eat at the corner bcancry. e Tillie A. - We've been mar ried nine years and have a girl and a boy, 6 and 8. Do you know that my children can never sit down to break fast with their father and mother, like in other homes? Why? It's not because I don't get up to make the meal, like some wives. It's because Ches ter just slips out quietly and has his coffee at some counter. I know that breakfast is supposed to be the most nu tritious meal of the day. I Plan it carefully and serve tempting things like apple pancakes, Spanish omelettes and popovers. How can a man ignore all my efforts like that and prefer some old stale store food? His hours make his dinner hour uncertain, so we don't wait for him in the evening. But mornings there's no excuse for our eating alone. e Chester A. - It's important how a man starts his day. I used to stick around, help Tillie with the kids, feed the baby, get dressed and have breakfast, but I'd leave home exhausted and upset. That's no way to go to work. My Planning Official Arrives in County George J. Brenner, plan ning consultant with the bu reau of municipal research, Eugene, arrived in Mcdford this week to start work on Project 701 in Jackson county. The project was set up in 1054 under sectiun 701 of the llousine Act which establish ed a federal program of urban planning assistance. Local work will be known as the Rear Creek Urban Regional plnuning project. It is expected to be com pleted In two years, and will include a comprehensive study plan of the valley floor includ ing an arterial roads program, land use study and economic base study. Brenner will have office space in the county planning office on the first floor In the courthouse annex. AT AIR STATION Cadet Henry L. Scott, son of Mr. and Mrs. Lawson Scott Jr., route d, Mcdford, was among a group of aviation cadets who reported recently for training at the Navy school of preflight at the Navy Air Station, Pensncola Fla. COMPLETES COURSE WAC Pvt. Marian I. How aid, daughter of Mr. and Mrs Eugene Howard, route 2, Mrd ford, completed the eight week communications center operation course at the Signal Training center. Ft, Gordon, Ga., recently. She is a 1061 Mrdford High school graduate. boss expects me to arrive cool, calm and collected, re freshed and rested. For that, I have to get out of the house fast, before the rush and the racket. To be truthful, I'd eat at home if Tillie would let me make my own breakfast and enjoy it quietly before she and the kids get up. But she insists on making a produc tion out of the meal. Then, there's something else. It's not just the noise. It's Tillie. She turns the kitchen into a shambles while she works. And she's still in her night gown, uncombed and messy. e The Council: Here's a switch. Instead of complaining that his wife won't get up and make his breakfast in the morning, Chester's beefing be cause his wife docs. Standing at the door, watching her hits- band's retreating form, Tillie might well repeat the im mortal words of the fight manager, Joe Jacobs: "I should of stood in bed." Actually Chester would like to have those home - cooked breakfasts, we'll bet. But Til lie has lost sight of the fact that a meal (to contradict Ger trude Stein) is more than a meal. That is, it s not Just food carted from stove to table via a plate. It's also surroundings, atmosphere, mood and back ground - all the things for which fancy restaurants raise the price. We haven't presented a "breakfast" case for several months. But last time we did, we received a charming let ter Irom a Lynnwood, Wash., reader which contains a few specific ideas for Tillie. We quote: "I have gotten up and fixed my husband s breakfast for 11 years now. Sometimes it's only coffee and toast, but we have 30 minutes to our selves every morning to talk while the children are still in bed. I'm no glamour girl, but it only takes five minutes to wash my face, put on lipstick brush my hair and slip into a pretty robe. (Incidentally, my husband keeps me supplied with these.) 1 feel flattered that he prefers me and my company to that of some prct ty waitress. I also feel that it is part of my job to see that he gets off to work in a cheer ful mood. If a woman loves her husband enough, this is only one of the ways in which she can show it." So what have we? You, Til lie, do the slipping out -slipping out of your night gown and into something fresh and perky. Steal out into the kitchen ahead of Chester and the children, even if it means getting up earlier. The quiet time together may do you more good than the extra sleep. Set the table for Just you two at first. This may well revive breakfasts - at home for Chester. It may even prompt him to arrange all together - dinners in the eve ning more often, for the chil dren's sake. And Chester, pick up pretty breakfast coat for Tillie tonight.
