SPECIAL Bus Leaves for White City After Dance Lipomas (Fatty Tumors) Every so often, I have to mention fatty tumors (lipo mas) under the skin because so many peo ple' ask about them. Many persons are unduly wor ried about these nodules; they fear they will turn into cancer. Ac tually, I can Alvarcs r e ni e in o e r only two or three cases in which a lipoma became big enough to annoy the person. For instance, a man had a lipoma in bis groin so big that it got in his way when he sat down. A woman had a big lipoma which was irri tated by the belts on her dresses, so I got a surgeon to remove it in a few minutes. Some people have only one or two lipomas, while some have many scattered all over their bodies. These lie under the skin in the fat. Many are as big as a big after-dinner mint, or about as big as a man's wrist-watch. They can run in families so, apparently, there is a hereditary tenden cy. I don't thing anyone has the remotest idea why they form. The big thing is not to worry about them and not to fuss with them unless one of them should grow big enough to become a nuisance. Tattooing Can Cause Serum Hepatitis A cause for the often-serious serum hepatitis can be infec tion during tattooing. Because, in the last two years, 30 cases of serum hepatitis, with one death, have been traced to tattooing with unsterilized needles, the New York City's Board of Health has closed up all of the local tattooing parlors. Brown of the Rogue River National for est has announced presenta tion of cash awards to two members of his staff. The first, an award of $200, was presented to District Ranger Neil Suttell of the Applegate district for prepa ration for an impact report for the Applegate dam and reservoir for use by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers. The report was revised slightly and later published in the Corps' report to its Wash ington office. Suttell was called on to present the re port to the regional forester and his staff. Suttell's ingenu ity, farsightedness, and the courage of his convictions re sulted in a report which far excelled any similar report written for a like project on national forests, Brown said. Second Award The second, an award of $150, was presented to Hec tor Langdon, forest engineer. Langdon, as forest safety of ficer for the past three years, has given leadership to the safety program that surpasses any previous record of per formance. He encountered passive thinking of safety by crew leaders. Through his attend ance at district and unit safe ty meetings, his initiation of a working forest safety -committee, and his incessant re minders on safety, the entire forest has become safety minded. Langdon's persistence won for the forest the regional for ester's safety trophy for 1959 and 1960, and second place in 1961 for the best safety rec ord for the past four years. LESTER McFALL Funeral services for Lester McFall. 45. of Eagle Point, who died Thursday, will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday in Conger-Morris downtown chapel. The Rev. Warren L. Christensen of the Eagle Point Community Bible church will officiate. Committal will be in Hillcrest Memorial park. Panel To Discuss Mental Health A team from Oregon State hospital, Salem, will present a panel discussion on mental and emotional illness at a meeting of the Jackson Coun ty Mental Health association Monday, May 21, in the board room of the Rogue Valley hos pital on Barnett rd., according to Dr. John McLaughlin, pres. ident of the association. The meetings starts at 8 p.m. The team, which also will be in the county to work with the local health department, will include Dr. Larry Doyle, psychiatrist in charge of ad mission ward and acute treat ment; Dr. Thad Furlong, psy chiatrist working in geriat rics; Mrs. Nadine Nunn, social worker; and Mrs. Gertrude Stoltenberg, director of the so cial service department at the hospital. Among subjects to be dis cussed will include facilities available in Oregon, admis sion and discharge procedures and modern treatment methods. Mental Illness is one of the most serious health problems and one which is receiving more emphasis nationally with the publication of the re cent challenging Congression al report on mental illness, ac cording to Dr. Erin Merkel, county public health officer. In addition to the panel dis cussion, election of officers for the association is scheduled. Mr. McFall was born Nov. 23, 1917. in Miller, Ark., and had lived in E?le Point for 14 years, where he was a member of the Eagle Point Grange. He was in the Army during World War II, from April 28. 1941. to Oct. 8, 1945, as technician 5, Q.MC, 4584th quartermaster service company. He was married Jan. 5, 1 1947, in Minden, Nev., to! Laura A. Murphy, who sur-' vives. Other survivors include eight children. Willard. Gary, Dale, Laurinda, Harold, Deb ara, David, and Steven; his i parents, Mr. and Mrs. LcRoy i McFall, Live Oak, Calif.; a brother, Donald McFall, Live Oak, Calif.; and two sisters, Mrs. Mary Lee Dyer, Live Oak, Calif.; and Mrs. Lena Langston, Ukiah, Calif. Active casket bearers will include Ray Palm, John John son, Larry Wilson, Ed Hill, Lloyd Mynatt, and Virgil Brown.
