With Stuart Young turning in two-hit pitching, with Dan Miles and Mike Barnes head ing the hitting and with stout field work when it was need ed the Tornado diamondcrs whitewashed Ashland 9 to 0 on the Grizzly field. Medford concluded its con ference slate with the game, finishing with a 7-1 mark in counting games. Ashland holds down third with a 4-3 record. The Tornado punched over a run in the first Inning when Miles led off with a single and Barnes followed with a three-base blow.-It weathered a first frame bid by Ashland and was not in any danger after picking up three more runs in the fourth inning. Both hits and both bases on balls yielded by Young were in the first inning when Ash land loaded the bags after two were out. A force out and a pickoff play wiped off the first two Ashland runners to reach base. Tom Logue and Larry Pierce got singles and Rick Hester walked but Jerry Dickerson was out on a ground ball to second baseman Bob Schroeder. After that Young had things his way except for a couple of MHS miscues that allowed the only other Grizzlies to get on base. The Tornado retired bat ters in order in the second, third, fourth and sixth in nings. Young registered four strikeouts. Miles hit three for five, giv ing him seven for nine in his last nine trips to the plate and Barnes had two safe blows. Medford runs in the fourth panel were on hits by Miles and Young, two walks, an error and a sacrifice flyout by Craig Laurance. The five ad ditional Tornado runs were in the fifth frame on singles by Dick Deffley, Dan Miles, Tim White and Laurance, a sacri fice fly by Miller, and a wild pitch, a walk and an error. Ashland got a man to third base in the seventh inning on an error and a passed ball.' Bob King was the starting hurler for Ashland and took the loss. He permitted seven hits and seven runs, walked seven and fanned four in four plus innings. Larry Pierce al lowed three hits and two runs the rest of the route. He yield ed a base on balls and struck out a batter. . Medford batted once around in both the fourth and fifth innings and had the bases loaded in the third. Medford will enter the state A-l quarterfinals now against South Eugene at Eugene the week end of May 25. The Tor nado takes on Roseburg there this Friday night in a double bill beginning at 6:30 p.m. Ashland goes to Klamath Falls on Friday for Southern Oregon conference concluding action with a tie for second place the aim of the Bruins. Crater hosts Grants Pass on Saturday to wrap up the loop campaign. Rain fell through the early and middle part of the Tues day game. Medford Coach John Ko venz said last night, "I'm real pleased. I thought the kids came through in fine style." He pointed out that it was the best ball game his club has played, overall, in sometime. Re-Entry OK'ed For Eddie Test Knoxville, Tenn. - 0!PI - A University of Tennessee bas ketball player involved in a bribe scandal last spring was given the right to re-enter the university Monday. Eddie Test, who was ac cused of failing to report a bribe attempt, was cleared for readmission by the univer sity's administrative council. Dean of students Dr. Ralph E. Dunford said "Eddie ap peared before our council and was told he could re-enter Tennessee. He asked for a hearing and we gave him one. As far as we are concerned, this ends our work on the Test case." Test, a two-year regular who had one year of eligibil ity left, said he plans to at tend summer school at the University of Chatta n o o g a and may stay there. He is a native of Chattanooga. OSU Downs WSU Nine Pullman -IUPH- Cecil Ira, the smooth Oregon State left hander, chalked up his sixth win of the year without a de feat Tuesday as the Beavers defeated Washington State 7-5 in a Northern Division base ball game. The Beavers scored an un earned run in the eighth to break a 5-5 tie and added a ninth inning insurance run. Oregon State's record is now 9-2 while the Cougars have a 5-4 mark. , Oregon State moves to Se attle for Thursday and Friday games with Washington.
