Slight Injury Linda Alice Hay, 18, of 310 Maple St., Medford, was injured slight ly, according to Medford city police, when the car she was operating left the street and crashed into a tree in front of 524 North Bartlett st. Incinerator Over loaded - Medford firemen were sum moned to a reported flue fire about 11:30 p.m. yesterday at the Oregon Food store, 523 South Central ave. They said that there was no flue fire, but that an overloaded incin erator had caused sparks to come from the stack. ... Furnace Fire-Ashland fire men were called to the home of Virginia Willis, 423 Litway St., about 9:45 a.m. yesterday to extinguish a fire in an oil furnace. Car Fire - Medford firemen were dispatched to the 200 block of East Main st. about 5:20 p.m. yesterday when a car fire was reported. Thev said the ignition switch had come loose in a car owned and operated by Monte Cook, route 3, box 174. This allowed a wire to short on the frame of the vehicle. Damage was confined to one wire. Flue Fire - A chimney fire occurred at the home of Earl C. Burns, 436 North Bartlett St., Medford, about 8:15 p.m. yesterday, city firemen said. Durno will be in Jackson county Friday and Saturday for his last cam paign appearances here be fore the May 18 election. The Medford Congressman has concentrated his cam paign for the GOP nomina tion for U.S. Senator in areas where his record is less known than in the Fourth dis trict, according to a . local campaign official. An open public meeting is planned for 8 p.m. Friday at the American Legion hall on Walnut street at which Dr. Durno will be available for informal questioning. Voters are urged by the local com mittee to meet and question him regarding his stand on domestic and foreign issues, and on current happenings in Congress and the Adminis tration. Dr. Durno will further clarify his position during three television appearances. He will appear at 4:30 p.m. and 6:55 p.m. Friday over KM ED-TV and at 10 p.m. Sat urday on a simulcast over KBES-TV and KOTI-TV. Duncan Endorsed by Two Local Unions Robert B. Duncan, Medford, candidate seeking the Demo cratic nomination for fourth district congressman, has re ceived the endorsement of two labor unions here. The Building Trades Coun cil of Medford and vicinity last night endorsed Duncan because of "his outstanding service to the people of the state of Oregon, and his prov en ability as an effective leg islator. The council also voted to support the candidacy of W. ' E. Morrison as a write-in can didate for state senator on the Democratic ticket. The Culinary Alliance and Bartenders Union, Local 329, this week endorsed Duncan for the fourth congressional ! district nomination. Russians Reject Disarmament Plan Geneva - (UP!) - The Soviet Union today rejected the American suggestion for zonal spot checks of general disarm ament despite a U.S. state ment that the plan had been designed particularly to meet the Russians halfway. Funeral arrangements will be announced by Ashland Mor tuary. HELEN M. SMITH A Requiem Mass for Mrs. Helen M. Smith, 56, of Gold Hl". who died Wednesday, will be said by the Rev. Fa- ther William McLeod at 10 a.m. rrmay at sacrea Heart Catholic church. Committal will be in Hillcrest Memorial park, with Conger-Morris Fu neral directors in charge of arrangements. Mrs. Smith was born May 4, 1906, in San Lorenzo, Calif., and had lived in southern Oregon since 1950. She was married Jan. 2, 1946, in San Francisco, to Robert G. Smith, who survives. Other survivors include a son, Ronald Smith, at home two brothers, George Foster and Mervin Foster, and a sis ter, Mrs. Mae Lyda, all of San Lorenzo, Calif.; and d a u g h ter, Mrs. Gcraldine Krasowski, Downey, Calif. Casket bearers will include John Rorex, Harry Wilkens, Charles LaCass, Roy Gibbons, R. G. Ritchey, and Charles Clark. FRANK C. DOLLARHIDE Ashland - Funeral services for Frank C. Dollarhidc, 70, of 1700 East Main st., Ash land, who died Monday, will be held at 10 a.m. May 11, at Litwillcr's Mountain View chapel, Ashland. The Rev. James Sinclair will officiate. Van Lindt, 73, of 287 Morton st., Ashland, died in Vancouver, Wash., May 8. He was born June 15, 1888,' in Ballinger, Tex. Funeral arrangements will be announced by Litwil- ler's Funeral home. SAM L. JOHNSTON Funeral services . for Sam I L. Johnston-, 79, of Applegate, who died Tuesday, will be held at Perl Funeral home at 10 a.m. Friday. The Rev. T. S. Gapen, pastor of the Apple- gate Community church, will officiate. Interment will be in the Jacksonville cemetery. Mr. Johnston was born Nov. 19. 1882, at Lenox, Iowa. He! moved to Jacksonville in 1911 from Creston, Iowa. In 1914, he moved to Thompson creek where he has been a farmer and rancher since that time. He was a former member of the IOOF lodge. On Feb. 22, 1905, in Ting- ley, Iowa, he was married to Lydia L. Hathaway, who sur vives.
