MAY 6. 1962 C 7 Summer Book o Fair Map Be Held by Guild The success of the recent Tudor Guild Book air has made possible the contempla tion of a similar fair during the Shakespearean festival, according to Mrs. Edd Roun trce, Ashland, fair chairman. Reporting to the guild at their May meting, Mrs. Roun tree added that proceeds from the fair made up a large portion of a festival acting scholarship. Response to the fair was so encouraging that the Guild has begun tentative planning for a summer book shop providing book avail ability and local support for the project continues, she said. Mrs. Kenneth Bartlett gave a full report on the Casting Night banquet, a traditional event' honoring the newly formed festival staff and company, scheduled for June 10 at the Ashland Junior High school. Mrs. Manville Heisel was welcomed into membership in the guild at the meeting held st the Rogue Valley Manor with Mrs. C. Rcase Bralcy and Mrs. Robert Evans as co-hostesses. Many women indulge their fancy by keeping hats which Ihey have especially enjoyed wearing and among Mrs. W. E. Thompson's treasures are these two elaborate hats from yesteryears. They are held by Mrs. Thompson's daughter, Mrs. Jack Mayer, Portland, who was in Gold Hill recently to be with her mother on her 90th birthday anniversary. Ceremonies Planned in Eagle Point Eagle Point The annual installation and initiation of the Eagle Point chapter of National Honor society will be held in the Eagle Point High school library room at 8 p.m. May 8. John Patrick will open the program with Miss Karen Jos sy giving the invocation. Mat Meyer will lead the flag sa lute followed by the history of the National Honor society, presented by Miss Diane Put man. The ideals of the national honor society will be divided into four parts with Dick Wil son representing scholarship; Miss Sandi Wallis. leadership; Miss Teresa Pruett, character; and Steve Geren representing service. Students who will be initi ated into the society are Carol Adams, Pat Beacham, Kathy Gooch, Judy Hill, Peggy John son, Brenda Solenbergcr, Lo retta Whipple, M a r 1 e n e Young, Chloe Atkinson, Kar en Bowdoin, Sandy Hawks, Steve Gustafson, Linda Nau mann, Diane Stelle and Lew Whipple. He took up alto saxophone, tenor saxophone and trumpet. His first job with a big name band was as saxophonist in the Gene Krupa band, and jobs with Harry James and Benny Goodman followed. Shortly before the war, Mr. Donahue organized his own band. Upon joining the navy be helped Artie Shaw organize a navy band. He served as co- organizer and arranger, saxo phonist and assistant leader as they toured the South Pa cific for almost two years, and when Mr. Shaw was dis charged, Mr. Donahue led the band for more than a year as they toured the European theater, my Dorsey makes it possible for him to bring back the music of "the sentimental gentleman".
