The responsibility imposed by the quantity and variety of drugs now available for treat ment of disease makes the pharmacy one of the busiest services in the nftdical clinics building. Love, chief of the pharmacy service. VA pharmacists are expect ed to take refresher courses, attend seminars and institutes periodically to keep their knowledge in tjjpir field cur rent. The committee on therapeu tic agents, composed of the chief medical officer, staff physicians, chief of the dental service and the chief of the pharmacy service, is estab lished to maintain national drug selection and control and also to promote economy. Through this committee a full range of therapeutic cate gories is maintained in the pharmacy. Love answers one of the im ponderables of pharmacy con cerning the ability to read a doctor's handwriting by say ing that it depends upon a combination of intutition and a wide knowledge of drugs. She tapped her feet in tune to the music from Air MOBILE CANTEEN A nine -passenger bus, which can be equipped with coffee servers and mass-feeding facilities on a moments notice, was purchased recently by the Jackson county chapter of the Ameri can Red Cross. The utility vehicle replaces the station wagon that was used for general chapter work. It was first put to use as a canteen when two Eagle Point Youths were lost in the Dry creek area recently. Search ers were provided food and hot coffee on the site. Currently, a staff of 14 Red Cross Gray Ladies serve as drivers for the vehicle in the work of transporting blind persons, delivering goods to needy persons and taking welfare patients for medical treat ment, as well as for other chapter chores. Another 30 canteen volunteers are - avail able for emergency canteen work. Delienback, Med ford attorney and Republican candidate for the state House of Representatives, was guest at two coffees Wednesday eve ning. Mr. and Mrs. Edgar Kupil las, 1317 Winchester ave., were hosts to a group of friends who discussed with Delienback, incumbent mem ber of the House, activities of the legislature during the 1961 session and issues requir ing legislation in the 1963 ses sion. Delienback discussed the problem of high property taxes, and stated that in his opinion, -the only means of chieving real property tax relief will be for the state to assume responsibility for a higher percentage of basic cchool support. He pointed out that ten years ago the legislature set as a goal the payment of 50 per cent of basic school support funds, but that goal has not been reached. Later in the evening, Del ienback spoke with a group that gathered at the home of James A. Medley, 333 West Jackson St., for coffee. The discussion entered around the interim education' committee meeting which Del ienback attended in Salem this week, and the report that Dr. Leon P. Minear, superin tendent of public instruction, made to the committee on the present status of plans to spend the $3V2 million Ford Foundation grant to Oregon. FEDERAL JOBS. RISE Washington (UPlt The num ber of federal jobholders in the executive branch of the government increased by 5,075 from February to March, a Senate-House committee re ported today. It said the March civilian job total was 2,441,800. Canadian Dollar Exchange Fixed Ottawa - (UPD - The Cana dian dollar stood today at j the fixed international ex change rate of 92V4 tents in relation to the United States dollar after more than 11 years of a "floating" rate. The government announc ed the rate was being pegged at "a definitive rate" to bring stability to internation al transactions. Finance Minister Donald Fleming said stabilization of the Canadian dollar at 92V4 cents in terms of U.S. cur rency would be "of great ad vantage to the Canadian economy," which has been plagued in recent years by heavy international payments deficits.
