TROSCLAIR New Orleans -4JPD- The Na tional Collegiate Athletic as sociation (NCAA) Friday placed the University of Colo rado on a two-year probation, but patted the school on the back at the same time. The probation prohibits the Buffalo football team from participating in NCAA cham pionships, bowl games or tele vised games. Walter Byers, executive di rector of the NCAA, said there was "no question that the pen alty would have been a great deal more severe" except for the prompt and efficient way Webfoot Baseballers Whip Idaho Eugene -IUPD- The Oregon Ducks combined 12 hits, in cluding three home runs, and 16 walks for a 16-6 win over the Idaho Vandals in a North ern Division baseball game here Friday. Idaho also committed four errors. The victory was the 19th in 25 decisions for Oregon and was its first win in three starts in the division. Grandelius tock the Buffa loes to the Orange Bowl last season and ran up 21 victories Tork Sets New Pole Vault Record Walnut, Calif. - (UP1) -Marine Lieutenant Dave Tork Saturday exceeded the out door world record for pole vault and became the second man in history to clear 16 feet when he soared over 16 feet 2 inches at the fourth annual Mt. San Antonio Re lays. The 27-year-old Tork, who hadn't even cleared 15 until last year, cleanly vaulted over the bar on his second attempt at the magic height. It was the highest vault ever recorded - indoors or out - and only the fourth over the once "impossible" figure of 16 feet. Another Ma rine, John Uelses, became the first person in history to pass the barrier when he did it last Feb. 2 at an indoor meet in New York. ' Tork's vault came late in the day after the other events had long finished and was witnessed by only about a hundred spectators. Grelle's clocking was only the fourth mile under four minutes run by an American citizen. Davies was in the field today and cleared 15-7 along with George Pratt. However, both failed in their three attempts at 16-2. The 6-foot tall Tork took only three previous vaults during the long competition before clearing 16-2. He was successful on his first vaults at 15 feet and 15-7 and then missed once on his first try at 16-2. His vault was the 12th meet record set during the relays, approached only in Import ance by Gelle's performance. "The status of Sonny Lis ton hasn't changed since he fought Eddie Machen here two years ago, Wilbur F. Lewis, chairman of the Wash ington state athletic commis sion, said Friday at Seattle. Liston was denied a boxing license in New York. The Se attle World's Fair along with Philadelphia and Washington, D. C, are reportedly being considered as alternate sites for the proposed September championship bout. Chairman Douglas Hayden of the California athletic com mission said in San Francisco that his group agreed with New York. "I don't feci that Liston has sufficiently rehabilitated him self," Hayden explained. "Nor has he made too much effort toward eliminating the people with whom he has been asso ciated."
