Yankees Keep Jinx Over Cleveland Indians By United Preu International I The world champion New York Yankees maintained their jinx over the Cleveland Indians Saturday by beating them at Yankee Stadium for the 19th straight time, 3-1, on John Blanchard's three run homer in the first inning. Whitey Ford was credited with his first victory of the year after pitching a six-hitter for eight innings and then turning over the job in the ninth inning to Luis Arroyo. Bobby Richardson and Mickey Mantle were on base as a re sult of walks in the first when Blanchard connected against Barry Latman. Gene Green hit a tremen dous homer in the fifth inning for Cleveland's only run. Bransom has a 9.9 clocking in the 100 and 22.2 in the 220. His 22-3 broad jump leads the pack and his 51.2 quarter mile ranks fourth. Jerry Arndt, also of SOC has best times in the 880 and mile while pole vaulter Mike Hanby and high jumper Fred Thomas have impressive firsts in their specialties. Pisstbtirgh moved to within one game of tying the modern major league record of 10 straight wins at the start of the season by beating the Mets, 8-4. The Cardinals made it seven in a row with an 8-0 romp over the Chicago Cubs. In other afternoon games in the National league, the San Francisco Giants nllied to beat the Cincinnati Reds. 8-fi, and the Los Angeles Dodgers whipped the Milwaukee Braves, 4-1-. Cal McClish. aided by Jack Baldschun's relief in the eighth and ninth innings, gained credit for the victory as the Philadelphia Phillies downed the Houston Colts, 3-1, in a night game before 21,821 fants at Houston. A triple by Tony Gonzalez and singles by Roy Sievers and Wes Covington were the big blows of the Phillies' attack. New York catcher Hobie New Look Dims Hopes Of Majors Washington -(UM- A second look at Army regulations may end hops of 20 major league baseball players to get back on the diamond next month. Earlier, the Army had said the recalled players might be discharged in May. But Fri day an Army spokesman said they may have to stay until June or July. The snafu arose over inter pretation of. an Army regu lation allowing the release reservists 90 days ahead of time if they are in seasonable occupations. The spokesman said the day early release must dale from the expiration of the ticipated duty terms (October) rather than the new overall service termination announc ed by the President (August). CP Sportsmen Meet Monday Central Point-A sea power presentation by Ed Milligan will be (he program on Mon day night, April 23, at the regular meeting of Central Point Sportsmen's club. The program will consist of Naval Reserve slides and pic tures and a talk on how each unit fits into national defense and works with others. Also on the program will be Standard Oil company films on fishing and a British Co lumbia film on travel, hunting and fishing. The meeting will be a 7:30 p.m. at the clubnouse.
