MEDFORD MAIL TRIBUNE, MEDFORD. OREGON Sfathos Speaks at Rogue Valley Manor Republication State Senate candidate Don Stathos prom ised Wednesday (April 18) to "bring Salem to Jackson coun ty" if elected to the state sen ate. Speakins before a luncheon Kroup at Rogue Valley Man or, Stathos said he would hold an "open office" in Medford once a month during the legis lative session. At this time, residents of Jackson county would be invited to bring their questions to him con cerning legislation and air any problems having to do with the state government, he said. "Communication between the voter and his elected rep resentative is usually broken off as soon as the campaign ends. I would maintain a pipe line between the state legis lature and the 73,962 people who will be affected by the action it takes," Stathos said. Declaring that a public of ficial cannot be a true rep resentative of the people with out knowing their problems, the Republican candidate also said he would hold meetings In various parts of the county during the months when the legislature was not in session. APRIL 19, 1962 Dr. Cecil Named Band Director Ashland - Dr. Herbert Cecil of Southern Oregon college was appointed band director for the 1962 summer concert season by the Ashland city council this week. Rehearsals will begin this month. A request from George Findley of the Elks lodge that May 1 be observed as Youth Day was approved, as was an 8 a.m. council meeting sched uled to brief the youthful par ticipants in their day-long municipal duties. Bids were let to General Electric corporation for un derground cable, to Firefiter company for fire hose, and to U. S. Pipe and Foundry com pany for cast iron pipe. The council ordered repairs In the 500 block on Allison St. to remedy a wash-out con dition caused by underground springs; ordered vacation of a 140-foot strip on Oregon st. to eliminate a jog; certified delinquent assessments for collection be placed on coun ty tax rolls with rebate to city, and passed an ordinance authorizing 10-year city im provement bonds totaling $32, O00 be issued under the Ban croft act for paving done during the past year.
