OREGON 32 Building Permits Issued by Central Point in 1st Quarter Central Point A total of 32 building permits for con struction amounting to $522,' S48 was issued by the Central Point city hall during t h first quarter of 1962. Fourteen permits were ! sued during March, for six hew homes, seven additions and a cafe, totaling $71,105 There were eight permits in February for five new homes and three additions totaling $50,600. Also issued in Febru ary was a permit to Crater High school for $306,000 in construction. In January, nine permit were issued, five for new homes, two for additions and one each for a grain elevator and car port. The Phoenix Fire Depart ment auxiliary has been asked to help wrap eggs. However, help is still needed in hiding the eggs and supervising the help. Prises will be given for each age group participating, Candy eggs will be used. Central Point-Sisklyou Ar chaeology club will meet at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday at the Crater Rock museum in Cen tral Point. All persons inter ested in Indian artifacts are invited to attend. Rogue River - Rogue River VFW auxiliary 4116 will hold a joint installation Friday at 8 p.m. at the VFW Post home in Rogue River. Central Point - The Ta-Jus-Ka fifth grade group of Campfire girls will meet Wed nesday alter school at the home of their leader, Mrs. Thomas K. Smith, 1358 Big ham dr. Central Point - The Wa- Ku-Chudc Campfire girls will meet Tuesday after school at the home of their guardian Mrs. Jean DeArmond, 3571 Oak Pine way. ... Central Point - The Merry Bluebird group will meet Tuesday right after school at the home of their leader, Joan Wood, on Freeman rd, Lone Pine - The Lone Pine Bluebirds will meet Tuesday at 2:45 p.m. in the new ele mentary section of the school. Lone Pine - The Girl Scout troop of Lone Pine school will meet Wednesday at 3:45 p.m. in the new elementary section of the school. For some time one of my colleagues in the office here has been after me to do something on Fritz and Helen Schulzke, the German couple who make European sausage and sell it in their store along highway 99 about half way between Phoenix and Talent. Although I will have to confess that I don't care for sausage myself, I must say that the Schulzkes appear to be artists in ' their field. In this country only since last June, they have built up a nice business. In addition to their own market, their European sausage is now sold by merchants in Medford, Grants Pass and Central Point. They make 50 different kinds of sausage, Including smoked frankfurters, farm er's sausage, three kinds of liver sausage, head cheese, knacker, smoked bacon, bologna, pcpperonl and mett wurst. European sausage is a more pure product than its American counterpart. The Schulzkes use no flour or preseratlves in producing it. The Schulzkes are originally from Berlin. They cams to the United States via Canada, where they stayed five years. r r . SAUSAGE MAKERS Helen and Fritz Schulzke display some of the European sausage they make. The United States appears to agree with them. "I like it here," said Mrs. Schulzke, who altered her first name from Hildcgarde to Helen tp fit the change of nations. "Its a nice, big, free country. The people are nice and friendly." . The fact that Miss Jacobs broke her toe WAS a separate item and had no connection with Mrs. Jacobs' being elected PTA president. Rogue River Budget Meet Rogue River A city budg et meeting has been set for Wednesday at 7:30 p.m. in the city hall here. A citizens committee will sit in with the council. Plans City Wednesday presented petition from some 90 per cent of the North Pine st. property owners re questing that their area be given residential zoning to preserve its peaceful atmos phere. Mayor Larry Shcehan ap pointed a committee of Coun cilmen Richard Niqiietlc, Har old Van Hoy, Roy Strickland and George Mngcrle to check Into possible zoning for the area and report back at the next council meeting. May 8. In another part of the meet ing, representatives of Clark and Groff Engineers showed maps and pictures to council men concerning two types of sewage disposal systems, the lagoon and air-ration. Robert Dames, city attor ney, reported on a recent meeting between officials of California Public Utilities and the city attorneys of Central Point, Jacksonville, Gold Hill and Rogue River.
