Mason, Port-1 Talent Community hall and land, rjresident of the Oregon I registration! will open at 0 State Federation of Garden l clubs, and Mrs. J. W. Scheel, ' Corvallis, vice president, will ; be in valley next week to attend a session of the Siski you district of the federated clubs. His subject will concern weed control and damage in home gardens. County Charter To Be Discussed . The proposed Jackson coun ty home rule charter will be discussed at the monthly eve ning meeting of the Insurance Women of Jackson County to be held Tuesday, April 17 at Kim's restaurant. Dinner will be served at 6:30 and the pro gram will begin it 8 p.m. A panel composed of a rep resentative of the home rule committee, someone speaking for the proposal and the third person speaking against it will present the material. A ques tion and answer period will follow. The public Is Invited to the dinner and the meeting fol lowing. The monthly luncheon meeting of the group was held April 5 at the Jackson house. The president, Mrs. Davidson, announced her committee ap pointments for tha coming year. Candidate To Speak . On Monday Persons who plan to attend the luncheon meeting Monday noon, April 16 of Jackson County unit, Oregon Feder ation of Women's Republican clubs, are reminded that reservations must be made and can be obtained by call ing Mrs. Don Stathos, SP 3-2294. It will be at the Jack son House at 12 noon. The guest speaker will be Dr. Harold M. Lvingston, a professor at Oregon State uni versity, who is a Republican candidate for United States Senator. Dr. Livingston's topic will be, "The Modern American Jungle." i The candidate began his teaching career after receiv ing his master's degree at the University of Colorado. He taught in Illinois until World War II when he served for 42 months in the Army. He received his doctor of philosophy degree from the University of Southern Cali fornia and he has taught speech for the past 16 years at Oregon State university. He also has taught on the summer staff of the Univer sity of Oregon. The professor also' Is a member of many professional societies, is past-president of the Oregon Speech associa tion, received a Ford Founda tion Fellowship in 1952, and is a member of the executive board of the Western Speech association. He has served on the Benton County Republi can Central committee for several years but has not be fore run for public office. In 1945 he was married to Miss Maryl Brisky, who is from a pioneer Washington family, and in 1946 they be came Oregon residents. They have five children. Py thian building I p m. - Westminster Prei- Townsend Members Make Dance Plans Plans for a dance to be held April 27 were made by Town send club members when they met Wednesday. The event will be held at the Pythian building. At the Wednesday meeting a noon luncheon was served and two guest speakers were on the program which follow ed. Music for dancing was furnished by Mrs. Maude Ar nold, who played the piano, J. P. Graham, banjoist, and Mrs. Earl Sikcs, accordionist. The club meets each Wed nesday from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m., in the Pythian building and an invitation is extended to any interested persons. Election Held By Gardeners In Ashland Ashland - Mrs. Widener Hendrixson was chosen to serve a second term as presi dent of the Ashland Garden club when members held their annual election last week. Also elected for second terms were Mrs. E. A. Bay, first vice president; Mrs. Roy Hays, treasurer; Mrs. Dale Hoover, historian; and Mrs. Walter Rcriford, librarian. Elected to a first term was Mrs. S. J. Church, corresponding secre tary. The subject for the day's demonstration was "Corsage Making" given by Mrs. W. A. Polenz, who explained the ba sic rules of suitability and composition. She described and made up several corsages to illustrate the ruies that call for simple small arrange ments for daytime wear or with suits and lacier more elaborate type for more for mal occasions. She also warn ed against inharmonious color combinations and overshadow ing ribbon adornments. An Easter theme was used for the tea table where a tall centerpiece of calla lilies was surrounded by pastel Easter eggs. Hostesses were the Mes dames C. H. Pendleton, Roy Frazier, Walter Turner, E. N. Terrill and George Rose. Mrs. Bay, flower show chair man, announced that the spring show is to be held May 26 in the Civic clubhouse and will have for its theme "Gar den of Memories." The annu al greenhouse and nursery tour is scheduled for May 11. Horticulture tips were given by Mrs. Elden Corthell, who opened her remarks with a poem, "April Foolishness," gave Instructions on seed planting and the use of tissue paper as a protective covering for the tender young plants. Reames Social Club Luncheon Announced A noon luncheon is plan ned by Reames Social club members for Wednesday, April 18 in the dining room of the Medford Masonic temple. Mrs. Rodney Witham, president, will preside for the business session to follow the luncheon and cards will be played during the afternoon. Mrs. Weldon Zun'del is chair man for the luncheon. Royal Arch Widows, Masons, Plan Dinner Jacksonville The Royal Arch Widows and Royal Arch Masons plan a potluck din ner Tuesday, April 17 at 6:30 p.m., in the Jacksonville Ma sonic temple. Those who make up the evening's committee are Mrs. Ed Gould, Mrs. Ed Pease, Mrs. Roy Smith, Mrs. Merritt Swing and Mrs. Nell Fick. Tha new grand princess of Pythian Sunshine Girls is Miss Layle Bostwick, daugh ter of Edward Bostwick. 3273 Biddle road. Miss Bostwick was installed into tha office at the recent annual meeting held in St. Helens, Ore. Layle Bostwick Has State Office Miss Layle Bostwick, daughter of Edward Bostwick, 3273 Biddle road, was install ed grand princess of Pythian Sunshine Girls during the 1962 session of the council held April 1 at St. Helens, Ore. Miss Bostwick is a mem ber of the Talisman Rosebud council in Medford. Others from this area who also were installed are Miss Barbara Kadin, grand royal warder; Mrs. Harry Bryant, grand royal adviser; and Mrs. W. A. Grochocki and Mrs. Roy O. Kadin, counselors.
