The , meeting was called to order by newly elected President Rick Callahan. Judy Eberhart called the roll.' A committee was appointed to investigate the counting of ooints for SSS Day. The school caper and possible im provements ' were discussed. Judy Benson reported on the exchange student that will live in her home next year. Galen Roberson was appoint ed head of the committee for finding a new way to recog . nize scholarship winners In award assemblies. . Rick commended the drama club for the fine presentation of "The Little Shephard of Kingdom Come." . Monday was sophomore visitation day at Ashland High school. All students were excused for the after noon while the new sopho mores went from class to class learning their way around, At a special assembly the sopho mores met the newly elected student body officers, and Gaylord Smith, principal.' Seniors at Ashland High waited all week for Senior Skip Day, ' which was can celled 'each day until Friday because of the weather. Each year the seniors are excused for one day. ' Girls Interested In future vocations in the medical field toured Sacred Heart hospital Friday, May 12. BANK DESTROYED - This general view shows the debris of a new bank building at Halstead, Kan., after an ex plosion Wednesday. The new building had, been in use only since May 15. Although there were no deaths, eight persons were injured. Cause of the explosion, which occurred before the. bank was to be opened for the day, was undetermined. According to Fred Robinson, Park and Shop official,, the building will be open for parking 24 hours a day. The . doors have been removed from the garage, formerly the Keith ' Sch'uiz garage, so that entry may be made from Front st. with vehicles leaving the building through the alley. Robinson said that the same rates apply to the build ing as to the other Park and Shop' lots in the downtown area. Since the program opened in August, 1959, nearly 210,000 vehicles have parked in the lots. The garage is the first building to be added to the program. Currently more than 70 stores participate in the Park and Shop program, Robinson said. . , . . . . Reorganization Committee Will Meet on Tuesday ; : The Jackson county school district reorganization com mittee will meet Tuesday, May 23; In' the county court house to consider the Barnett rd. area annexation problem, and perhapT complete some unfinished reorganization pro cedure, according to County School Superintendent Alt B Mekvold. ... It would not' in clude the Rogue Valley Manor The proposed shift would include the area generally north of a line east along the Charlotte Anne rd., which jogs north to keep the manor in the Phoenix district, and then extends east into the foot hills. The most highly popu lated part of the district lies Inside the Medford city limits. Continue Final Steps ; . ( Mekvold said the' commit tee probably will continue with final steps to make Cen tral Point and Prospect ad ministrative districts. The committee had. been awaiting the outcome of state legisla tion. Now, because of recent legislation, such districts can be continued under the pres ent school boards since no boundary changes are Involved.-;. ,. .-. , ., ; ., Further action may be tak en on reorganizing such dis tricts as Plnehurst and Ash land, Eagle Point and Butte Falls, possibly Applegate with Medford, and . Evans Valley and Rogue River, Mekvold in dicated. The reorganization committee had been awaiting legislative action before pro ceeding. No major changes have been made by the recent state legislature on the school dis trict reorganization law. Some changes which would apply to this area are the rural school board becomes the boundary board 90 days after the ad journment of the legislature. The rural board assumes du ties of the school district re organization committee effec tive July 1, 1962, according to recent legislation. According to another new law a school administrative district can be so declared without a vote. The state legislature repealed the 60 per cent vote margin required In each affected dis trict in order for school dis trict reorganization to be ap proved. The term will start when he completes a sentence of two years and six months for burglary not in a dwelling. Masters present were Bob Bitterling, Pomona and Eagle Point; Fifth Annual 4-H Horse Show Slated White City - Horsemanship of young riders under nine years of age exhibiting three year old colt and dressage horses will be one feature of the fifth annual Desert Pega sus 4-H club horse and riding show Sunday, May 21, at 10 a.m. and 1 p.m., according to Henry C. Herzog, manager of the Veterans Administration White City domiciliary. Staging the show and events will be James Dunn, Eagle Point. In past years, the show has drawn horses and riders from southern Oregon and northern California into the White City Memorial stadium, Dunn said. Listed as a special event will be a Texas barrel race for mothers during the afternoon. : The. afternoon program also will include key hole, scurry, pole bending and the Texas barrel races with ribbons be ing awarded to five places. Three age groups will com pete in the nine to 12 year bracket, 13 to 18 and adults. In addition, trophies will be awarded for high point win ners in each age group. The public is invited.
