Annual Home Extension Festival Set For Friday; Units To Meet The 'annual Jackson Coun ty Home Extension festival will be held Friday, May 10, at 7:30 pjn. In the Wilson School gymnasium, Grand and Corona avenue. An evening festival has been planned this year for the . first time in hopes that more people will become informed about the extension home economics program. Day time festivals did not give the husbands an opportunity to attend. . Mrs. Lucian Van Gordon, county committee chairman, will act as mistress of cere monies. The invocation will be given by the Rev. Fredrick Ross Evans. J. D. Vertrees, Klamath county agent, will be the guest speaker. His topic will be "The Little Things of Life." r Capt. Clyde Fichtner of the Medford police department will speak on traffic safety, Future Workers To Be, Honored Grants Pass - The annual tea for the Future Medical Workers of Grants Pass High school will be held at Joseph ine General hospital May 18. The Josephine County Med ical auxiliary will provide transportation ' to the event for the girls and serves re freshments. Mrs. Arthur Forsgren was elected president of the aux iliary at a recent meeting. Mrs. Frank Purtzer will serve as vice president and Mrs. Edward Wall will be secre- ' tary-treasurer. The luncheon meeting was held at the home of Mrs. John R. Boe with Mrs. Robert Wil bur as cohostess. Mrs. D. G. Mackie, an aux iliary member, was elected fourth vice-president of the Oregon State Medical auxili ary at the recent state meet ing in Portland. Friday afternoon the silver tea of the Josephines was held at the home of Dr. and Mrs. William Judy. One of the features of the evening will be a style revue of the suits and coats made by extension members in their tailoring workshop this year. Mrs. Leona C. Sheehan, Jack son county home economic agent, will moderate the re vue. , Women who have been ac tive in extension work for 30 years or more will be given special honor. Mrs. Richard Schuchard will lead group singing ac companied on the organ by Mrs. Stanley Hall. Mrs. Hall will also play during the style revue. The public is invited to at tend this festival. The entire program has been planned so that it will be of Interest to both men and women, it was stated. Refreshments will be served at the close of the fes tival. Sams Valley Mrs. Edgar Pleasant, Mead ows road, Sams Valley, will be1 hostess for a meeting of the Sams Valley Extension unit Tuesday, May 16. The meeting will begin at 10:30 a.m., and a potluck luncheon will be served at noon. The project lesson, "Care and use of small appliances," will be in the afternoon with Mrs. Earl Bigham and Mrs. Pleas ant as leaders. Members are reminded to bring' their own table service. Wilson Park unit will have a May festival at 8 p.m. Thursday, May 18, at the home of Mrs. Loyd Turner, .1525 Jasper street. An Installation ceremony will be held for the newly elected officers. They are Mrs. Gary Conrad, chairman; Mrs. L. D. McNealy,, vice chairman; and ' Mrs. Gary J. Shaffer, secretary and treas urer. Mrs. L. D. McNealy, chair man of this special meeting, will be assisted by Mrs. Loyd Turner, hostess and refresh ments; Mrs. Gary J. There will be a dis play of all the projects for the past year for the guests to observe. . Child care will be provided by Mrs. Eunice Jones, 235 Laurel, Central Point. ; 1 Council Fire Plans Made By Leaders Plans for a grand council fire for the Eagle Point dis trict Camp Fire Girls and Blue Birds were completed at a recent meeting of the Lead ers Association held in the home of Mrs. Lyle Greenwood on Brophy road. Mrs. Joseph Shelton is gen eral chairman for the event, which is. the annual,, awards night for the organization. It will be, held In the grade school gymnasium at 7:30 p.m., Friday, May 26. A re hearsal will be held after school there, Thursday, May 25. All girls participating are to practice. ' Mrs. Merle McGraw was appointed chairman of the awards committee and states that guardians wishing to make an appointment with her for girls needing to pass examination to receive rank, are to do so during the week of May 15 through 19. Also all leaders who have girls re ceiving three and five year membership awards must file the applications at the Camp Fire office. Lists of names for candy sale awards must also be presented. The Ne-Wa-Kan-Tanda group has a display of dolls dressed in Camp Fire and ceremonial costumes in the window of Olsen's confectionery. Anyone who hasn't seen it was invited to do so before it is dis mantled. An insurance plan which is available to leaders for field trips was explained by Mrs. Le Roy B e d i n g f i e 1 d. CREAM x32KM Royal Neighbors Hold Convention Election of officers for the 1963 convention, and an eve ning banquet were among highlights of the district con vention of the Royal Neigh bors of America in Medford May 9. Sessions were held in the Knights of Pythias hall. Mrs. Elba Graham, Jackson ville, was elected oracle for the 1963 convention; Mrs. Virgle Stewart, Klamath Falls, vice -oracle; Mrs. Carl Pearson, Medford, past oracle; Mrs. Leonora Broili, Ashland, chancellor; Mrs. Ernest Ras mussen, Jacksonville, recorder-receiver; and Mrs. John Hall, Ashland, marshal. The next convention is to be held In Jacksonville. R. Alexander . provided crocheted baskets for the event. On the luncheon committee were the Mesdames DeWitt Ferguson, Frank Hussong, C. R. Alexander, James Stephen son and Ruby Hicks. Speakers at the afternoon meeting included Mayor John Snider and Mrs. Duvall. Guests and district officers were- presented corsages and given grand honors 'of the lodge. Escorts were the Mes dames Delbert Ross, Arthur Johnson, Irvin Patten and William Russell. Anita Kay Johnson and Rusty Pursell as sisted with the corsage presen tations.
