A STICKLER FOR DECORUM 'Year-Round' Program Planned at University CorvallU-Tht. "year-round" . ichool program that will be tried on an experimental ba lis this nummer at Oregon State university hn drawn favorable endorsement from students and is expected to draw a substantial enroll ment, according to university . officials. The experimental' summer school this year will corres pond to about a regular school term. The usual 8-week summer session will run from June 19 to Aug. 11. This year after it is completed, however, a special 4-week "interseuion" will follow from Aug. 14 to Sept. 8. By putting the two together, a student may earn 18 credit hours, or a full term's work plus. The split-session plan will meet the . needs of public school teachers ' who take graduate work in the summer but who have to be back "on the job" in late August, Dr, ALUMNI HEAD QUITS Corvallifl -4JFS- Robert P. Knoll, alumni manager at Oregon State University, has resigned effective June SO. Franklin R. Zeran, dean of education and director of summer session, pointed out. Record Enrollment A record summer enroll ment of about 2,000 is indi cated for the 8-week session, Dean Zeran added. A survey is being made of OSU stu dents now to determine how many will remain for the en tire 12 weeks, and what courses they would like offer ed.': Preliminary figures show that as many as 300-400 stu dents are now set to take the full summer's work. Work will be open to students from other colleges as well, of course, Zeran emphasized. Course offerings for the four- week intersession will be on a relatively modest scale this year but will still offer fine opportunities for the students, he continued. Approximately 400 courses. workshops, seminars and in stitutes will be offered during the regular 8-week session. A special two -week workshop on community colleges will be a highlight. It is designed to provide Information about organization and administra tion' of community colleges- Just approved by the legisla ture and under construction by several Oregon cities. Morris Named Clinic President H. s. (Mike) Morris was elected president of the South em Oregon Family and Child Guidance clinic at the May meeting. ! . . , Edward Collins will serve as vice president for the com ing year; Dr. Frank Wilson, treasurer; and Mrs. John L. Welch,' secretary of the board, New board members elect ed to three-year terms were Dr. Henry L. Boehnke, Circuit Court Judge Edward C. Kelly, Robert E. Phillips, Dr. Fred erick Trost, Mrs. Welch and Dr. Wilson.. y: The clinic was established eight years ago to help the emotionally disturbed child and his parents. Since the first of this year, the agency has added family counselling to its services. Everyone in southern Ore gon may obtain clinic serv ices, according to the officers, but because of increasing de mands for such aid, it is nec essary to make appointments before visiting the clinic. Membership dues of $1 per year are still being accepted to aid in financial support of the clinic. ' ' 4 H Club News Renegades The April meeting of the Reese Creek Renegades 4-H club was held at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Moore. Joanne Marshall reported on shear ing sheep. Jerry Moore gave a demonstration on clipping an animal for a show. We had a test on Identification of parts of a sheep. Dennis Phillips, t Reporter Deitrt . Pegasus Reports on' April activities of members were made at the May meeting of Desert Pega sus 4-H Horse club at the home of the leader, James Dunn. Dale West and Lauramay Noble participated in the spring cutting horse judging clinic and "shodeo" at Grants Pass, riding in the open west ern class. The girls rode their three-year-old mares for the first time in competition. Lauramay reported on the State of Jefferson quarter- horse first annual spring show at Grants Pass. She said that Don Caballero won five tro phies at the show. ' Scout News Cub Scout Pack 38 Hornbrook - Den 1 of Cub Scout Pack 38 held a treasure hunt at the home of their den mother, Mrs. George Smith recenjly. The boys followed a trail, laid by Mrs. Smith, which led back to her kitchen door where a batch of cupcakes awaited them. ' Cubs following the cupcake trail were Teddy Fisher, Rusty Smith, Danny Dooley, Benny Bennett, Daniel Jones, uene f armer and Dennis Swafford. In the 13 to 18 age group, Lauramay placed fourth and in English pleasure, Regina Krambeal, second. Others participating were Barbara and Waten Lee Kurz. On May 21, the fifth annual horse show will be held at the Veterans Administration Do miciliary at White City. Rib bons and trophies will be giv en and an entry fee will be charged. New members introduced at the last meeting were Sue Welsheimer, Beti and Lee Za wadzke, Lauramay Noble and Lucille Burk served refresh ments.
