Carpenter, a graduate of Oklahoma State university and the University of Denver, has been employed as child welfare supervisor for the Jackson County Pub lic Welfare commission. She moved here from Dun can, Okla., where she has been employed as district child welfare supervisor for the Oklahoma department of public welfare. She received her bachelor of arts degree in psychology from OSU and a master of so cial work degree from Den ver. ; ; James Pullman, county wel fare administrator, announc ed that the agency expects to strengthen its services to chil dren in foster homes and in protective services. Mrs. Car penter will supervise the child welfare workers, Mrs. 'Winifred Uridel, Roland Hart ley and Fred Stock.. The child welfare division works with children in foster homes, adoptions, protective services, children in their own homes, and the licensing and supervising of foster homes. The child welfare supervi sor position has been unfilled for about two years. Two Suits Filed Because of Crash Two damage suits have been filed in Jackson county circuit court as a result of an acci dent near Bear Creek Or chards oh Highway 89 June 16,1960. Both complaints have been filed against William D. Som mers and Dean L. Sommers, both of route 1, Talent. Alberta E. Guyton, 3890 Laure lane, Medford, is seek ing $14,196.85 in one suit against the two Sommers, and Gertie Alline Hutton, 3808 Laurel lane, Medford, is seek ing $21,390 in a second suit. According to the complaint, Alberta E. Guyton was driv ing the car in which Gertie Alline Hutton was riding as a passenger when a car driv en by Dean Sommers struck the Guyton car in the rear. Sommers is the son of INll liam D. Sommers, car owner, according to the complaint. The two women charge that they were seriously injured. Gertie Hutton is seeking special damages of $1,390 cov ering medical costs of $649.45 . and loss of 'wages of $740.60 to date. Alberta Guyton is seeking special damages of $696.85 covering medical ex penses of $277.25 and lost wages to date of $419.60. The two complaints allege that Sommers was driving faster than reasonable, follow ing too close, failed to keep his car under control and failed to keep a proper lookout. Medford Girl Named Dormitory Counselor Corvallis Glyndon Hunt er of Medford has been picked to be a counselor in the wom en's dormitories next year at Oregon State university. She is a sophomore in the school of humanities and so cial sciences. I Thirty-seven coeds were picked for the dormitory coun selor assignments. They will assist in new student orienta-, tion program, in directing dormitory affairs, and will help other students in the ! dormitory with study prob lems.
