Sale of recipes for foods served at the potluck dinner was a feature of the evening at the Red Cross building. Buffet tables were decorated with bouquets of lilacs and purple Iris. ' The head table was centered with a mixed bouquet, of spring flowers, and other tables had clusters of red and rose rhododendron blossoms. : Special Introductions went to past presidents. May, Mrs. Jeffrey Shute, Mrs. Lei ter Stinson and Mrs. Thomas Upton. i Speech Problems Topic of Group Ashland - Speech problems and their correction was the subject of a talk by Dr. Leon Mulling before a recent meet ing of the Sub-District, Ore gori Nurses association. Mrs. Tony Kancller was chairman of the session held in the Ash land General hospital dining room. i 'i Dr. Mulling stressed the emotional problems that are the most frequent causes of speech defects. The Southern Oregon college professor play ed a number of tape record ings to Illustrate his talk and gave examples of cases from his speech clinic. Mrs. Kancller conducted a brief business session at which committee reports were pre sented and announcement made of workshop sessions scheduled for Sacred Heart hospital. , Miss Stephens Honored Guest Miss Rayma Stephens was honored at bridal shower the evening of April 27 at the home of Mrs. Charles Bateman, 2130 Taylor 'road, Central Point. Lessons Planned Ort Appliances Three additional extension units have announced meet ings this week. Medford Unit Medford unit will meet Wednesday at 10:30 a.m. in Santo hall on Columbus street. The project lesson on the arrangement, care and use of small electric appliances will be conducted by Mrs. Esther Kcbbs and Mrs. H. W. Mor row. . Agate Unit Agate Unit wiU hold the final meeting of the year Thursday, May 11, at 10:30 a.m. at the home of Mrs. D, A. Bever, 5342 Gebhard road. Installation of officers will be held, with Mrs. Wendel Lusk becoming the new chair man; Mrs. Ray Smith, vice chairman and Mrs. Donald Pigg, secretary-treasurer. I Club Continues Drill Team Plans A ladles drill team will be organized by Mrs. C. E. Naff zlger, chairman "of the Town send club Harmony auxiliary, and begin practice at the Py thian hall Wednesday at 10:40 a.m. Ten women will form the preliminary group. A beef stew and potlucK luncheon will be served at 12 o'clock noon at Wednesday's regular club meeting. Nine visiting members at tended last week's session. Woody Murphy's "liiree Ore gon Counties" orchestra play ed. Musicians were Charles Pope, Walt and Archie McAl lister, Warren GammiU and Mr. Murphy. Visitors are welcome to all Wednesday's meetings of the group. Adarel Social Club To Hold Moling Jacksonvllle-Adarel Social club will meet Thursday, May 11, at the Jacksonville Ma sonic temple tor a potluck luncheon. Mrs. Roy William son, chairman, stated that there will be a "surprise cook." Members are asked to take the labels and bands for the club collection. Birthdays Observed Ashland - Members of the Hartley family held a picnic in Lithla park April 30 to observe the birthday anniver saries of six members. Honored were Mrs. Weldon Hartley, Medford, on her 83rd birthday - anniversary; Miss Ada Hartley, Ashland, on her 80th birthday; George Hart ley, Phoenix, Roily Hartley, Talent, and his son, Marc, also Talent, and Mrs. Pearl Wea- gant, Phoenix. The George Hartleys brought a huge, colorfully decorated birthday cake with all the names of the honored guests inscribed. Amid the threat of rain, the fathers and fifth and sixth grade boys played a softball game which ended with fath ers as winners. Before the magic show in the school gymnasium, Loren Soderlund, school coach, pre sented William Townes the winning trophy which he ac cepted on behalf of the fath ers. The king-sized bat-trophy will be placed on display in the school. , Johnny Eads Kept young and old under his spell of magic for his share of the eve ning's activities. Disappear ing balls, appearing silk squares, an old Chinese stick and string trick, a card game, and a white rat were all part of his show. Following the magic show. the Walt Disney movie "Bear Country" was shown. ' Washington Parent Teach er association held a food sale and sold dessert and bever ages. " Mrs. Edward Evans was chairman of the events, assist ed by Mrs. William Townes, unit president, the officers and the executive board. Today is Health Day at the school. Ronald Weatherford, principal, announced the pro gram and said health honor roll pins would be awarded. Swings Conduct Court Session; Events Planned Mr. and Mrs. Merritt Swing, new royal matron and patron of Roxy Ann court, Order of Amaranth, recently conducted their lirst meeting. Mrs. Stanley Jones was installed as marshal in the west: Jack Kennedy was Installing patron with Mr. and Mrs. Marshall Day as aide and marshal. Mrs. Richard Mayfield, ways and mean's chairman, re ported on the mother-daughter luncheon served for Bethel 55, International Order of Job's Daughters, which court mem bers served. Plans for com ing events Include the annual outdoor breakfast in July, and a rummage sale in August. Mrs. Swing announced that a memorial service is planned for-the May meeting. - Court room decorations were award winning flower arrangements which Mrs. Lawrence Messal had display ed at a show at Crater Gar den club. Refreshments were served by Mr. and Mrs. Charles Hoppe and Mr. and Mrs. Olaf Skoog. Siskiyou court held instal lation of officers in Yreka April 22, with Jack Kennedy of Roxy Ann court as Install ing officer. Mr. v and Mrs. Swing, Mr. and Mrs. Hal Bishop. Hornbrook Family At Church Meeting Hornbrook - Mr. and Mrs. Paul Greene and granddaugh ters Linda and Lydia attended a meeting In Grants Pass last Sunday afternoon of all Epis copal churches In the southern Oregon deanery, The meeting, held at St. Luke's church, was for the purpose of presenting the mite boxes for the mis sionary fund of the Episcopal church. Linda and Lyria sang with the junior choir for the serv- ice. Speaker for the afternoon ! was the Rev. C. W. Crowther, j student chaplain from the Uni versity of the City of Los An geles. Mr. Crowther was in the southern Oregon area to lead a retreat for students of Southern Oregon college at the Black Oak Epstcopal Con ference Center on the Rogue river.
