ft B-8 Skiing Areas Within Day's Drive of jVledford Although the Crater Lions Sportsfair will be concerned principally with summer sports activities, winter sports can not be overlooked, since skiing in this area extends into the - summer months. Ashland ski resort, and a prospectus for the development of the area by private capital is expected to be published soon. It ;s hoped the area will be ready for the season next fall. Mt. Ashland is 7,530 feet high, and is IS miles south of Ashland in the Rogue Riv er National forest. Valley ski ing enthusiasts say the area -is natural for development, and will provide some of the best skiing in this area. Other Developments In addition to Mt. Shasta and Mt. Other skiing areas include Crater Lake National park, where regular ski trails have been marked. For people who take week end trips, there are several winter sports area ' in the northwest, including Mt. Hood near Portland, Bachelor, near Bend, and Hoo Doo Ski Bowl near Santiam pass. . The Union Creek recreation area in Rogue River National forest contains 35 camp sites, 33 cooking stoves, 42 picnic tables and 21 toilets, making it one of the largest such areas in the forest. dealer
