2 Softball Meetings On Tuesday men's soltball leagues for this season's play are scheduled for Tuesday night, May 2. Session oi the Jackson County Softball association will be at 8 pjn. at the city hall, Medford; YMCA Church league will convene at the Y at 7:30 p,m. President Willard Barnum of the county association has emphasized that the organiza tion has set the Tuesday meet ing as deadline for entry of teams in the circuit, Barnum reported 10 teams definite af ter a meeting last week. The church loop meeting has been called by Chuck - Clemans, who was chairman of the circuit in 1960, Clemans said that all churches inter ested in fielding teams should be represented at the Tuesday meeting. Grade School Track Rivalry Next on Agenda With the baseball season completed, attention now turns to track and field for boys in Medford district grade schools. Schools of the district each will compete in three meets. There will be dual events on May 9 and May 16. - Concluding grade track ac tivity will be the ail-city meet to be conducted over two days. Preliminaries for all classes ard some finals will be held on Friday, May 19. Other finals are set for Tues day, May 24. City meet com petition will be at the senior high. stadium. Boys will be divided into A, B and C classes according to height, weight and age. Villanova Wens Penn Relays Championship Philadelphia OTPD Villa- nova university, almost forgot ten for two days, roared Jiome with three championships, in cluding an unprecedented sev enth straight victory in the one mile, Saturday to haul away the honors of the 67th annual Penn Relays. The main line Wildcats up set favored Abilene Christian in the 880 yard run for their first taste of victory, won the won seven firsts and tied for another. Talent was a close third with SO. Eagle Point had 50 and Gold Hill 33. Class B Scor Scores In Class B were Tal ent 154, Rogue River and Eagle Point 12 each and Gold Hill 32, St, Mary' did not enter. ' In Class C Talent tallied 88, Eagle Point 78, Rogue River 72, Gold Hill 32 and St. Mary's 18. Craig Phillips won the broad jump and the 100 and 220 - yard dashes for Rogue River in Class A. Klamath Mullet May Be Snagged, Gaffed Portland - Two bills affect ing fish and game which were introduced in thi nusinn nf the legislature are now law according to the game com mission. Both of these meas ures contained the emergency ause ana nave been signed By the governor. One of the measures nermlts taking mullet at Klamath lake oy means other than hook and line. In other words, mullet can now be taken by snagging, gamng, spearing and like means. The mullet is a species of sucker inhabiting Klamath lake. It is a game fish and may otherwise be taken only under rules and regula tions prescribed by the com mission. Locke, chief oi lake and stream management for the state game commission. Usually fishermen have to wait until the trout are three to. four years old, Locke point ed out. Studies at Willow lake indicate that fishing can be provided from lake plants of flngerlings and small kokanee, he explained. The absence of large trout In the lake Indicates that the 1859 planting failed to survive and accounts for the poor quality of fishing during 1980, Generally, plants of rain bow flngerlings In lakes show excellent returns, the state game commission official said.
