Trout Grow Up
Fast in Willow
Although only two years
old the trout In Willow laka
have grown large enough to
be legally taken by fishermen
this season, according to Fred
E. Locke, chief oi lake and
stream management for the
state game commission.
Usually fishermen have to
wait until the trout are three
to. four years old, Locke point
ed out. Studies at Willow lake
indicate that fishing can be
provided from lake plants of
flngerlings and small kokanee,
he explained.
The absence of large trout
In the lake Indicates that the
1859 planting failed to survive
and accounts for the poor
quality of fishing during 1980,
Generally, plants of rain
bow flngerlings In lakes show
excellent returns, the state
game commission official said.
Failure to survive the winter
accounted for the poor fish
ing at Diamond lake a few
years ago, he explained,
County judge Earl Miller
who received the letter from
Locke said he understood 250,
000 flngerlings were planted
in Willow lake last year.
