Obituaries LOUISE KNIGHTEN , Ashland Mrs. Louise Knighten, 64, of 2245 High way 66, Ashland, who died Tuesday evening, was born in ,'Talent Nov. 6, 1986. She lived in this area all her life. She was married to .Chester Knighten m Jackson ville in 1918. Survivors include her hus. band, three brothers, Maurice Barlow, Redding, Calif.; Olen Barlow, Phoenix, Ore.; and 'Oren Barlow, Talent;,, and four grandchildren. , f One son, Cleo, A. Mrs. Payne was born May 15, 1893, at Dunkirk, Ind., daughter of the late William E. and Ada Smith. She lived . in Medford from 1911 to 1919, in Yoncalla, Ore., from 1919 to 1924, then in Long Beach, Calif., until 1953, when she and her husband returned to Medford. She was married Nov. 21, 1919; at Yoncalla, to Merl H. Payne, who survives. She was a member of the Methodist church since early childhood, and a member of the First Methodist church in Medford at the time of her death. . Survivors, besides her bus band, include two sons, Rich ard E. Payne, Portland, Ore.; and Merl H. Payne Jr., Levit town, Pa.; a brother, Lynn E. Smith, Medford; a sister, Janie V. Smith, Medford, and nine grandchildren. House Trailer Damaged By Fire This Morning Fire starting in a fuse box under the kitchen sink dam aged a trailer house at Ever Shady Trailer park, 4076 South Pacific highway, about 9:45' o'clock this morning, Medford firemen reported. They said considerable fire damage occurred to the kit chen area and heat damage to living room and bedroom. There was smoke damage throughout. The trailer owner is George H. Eutsey. Owens, route 1, Talent. . : Rear-End Accident - Cars operated by Daniel Neil Morris, 24, of 120 Lincoln St., and Laurence Abe Ryer son, 41, of 3422 Oak Pine Way, Central Point, collided Wednesday about 10 p.m. at the intersection of Riverside ave. and Edwards st., accord ing to city police. Police said the Morris vehicle struck the Ryerson vehicle from the rear. Morris was cited for violation of the basic rule.. There were no reported injuries. Driver Cited - City police cited George Arthur Kaiser, 45, of 932 South Holly St., for disobeying a stop sign, after a car operated by Kaiser al legedly failed to stop at a stop sign at the intersection of Eighth and Holly sts., and collided with a car operated by Gordon Forrest Casey, 25, of 702 King st., about 12:30 p.m. Wednesday. Both cars sustained moderate damage, and there were no reported injuries. Fund Event Elk-Trail Parent-Teacher association will hold a fund-raising event Fri day, April 28, in the school gymnasium. Music will be furnished by the combined choirs of the Elk-Trail and Shady Cove schools. Simpson, Southern Oregon college director of publica tions, has announced. Those interested in attend ing the college may obtain the bulletins by contacting Mrs. Mabel W. Winston, registrar. Simpson pointed out that there were a number of impor tant changes in the regular catalog which reflected the growth of the college in terms of enrollment, buildings and facilities, and academic offer ings. . 1 Attesting to the increasing ly high standards of the insti tution was the inclusion of a complete Honors program as a challenge to students of su perior scholastic ability. The program offering consists of accelerated classes; advanced placement; a lower-division General Honors program; and an upper-division Degree Hon ors program. ' ' ; Advanced Classes Students who complete ad vanced work in high school under the Advanced Place ment program of the college entrance examination board and who receive satisfactory grades in examinations admin istered by the board, may, on admission to SOC, be permit ted to enter advanced or ac celerated classes.
