Tliree Men Jailed foi j Using 'Switched' Plates A car without tail lights was spotted by a Medford po lice officer this morning, and the subsequent investigation of six vehicles involved law enforcement agencies through out the northwest. The car was one of six en route from a used car agency in Tacoma, Wash., to the Olds mobUe garage in Medford to which.; they had been sold. Three cars were each' towing another car, police said, -and all displayed "switched" li cense plates. The three driv ers were cited on this charge, and '- were sentenced to one day in the city jail in munici pal court , this morning.' Permit Issued for MHS Shop Project Eight Medford High school students and their shop In structor, Vern Voss, applied for a building permit Thurs day to construct a $16,000 residence at 921 Jasper st. The house building project for high school students was approved last month by the Medford school board. The house will be constructed on a district-owned lot in the vi cinity of the high school shops. The lot is 50 by 100 feet. City building department officials commented today that- before the $104.25 was paid for the permit, the stu dents checked as to why it cost so much, and just what they would be getting for their money. Officials added that they asked many "intelli gent" questions. : The permit was issued to School District 649C. , 30 Appointments For Blood Made Only 30 appointments have been made so far for the Mon day and Tuesday visits of the Red Cross Bloodmobile, Red Cross officials reported today. The Bloodmobile's visit will be used as an experiment this time, according to Mrs. J. W. Burba, blood program chair man. She said that residents had complained of the early afternoon hours for the visit and were therefore unable to donate. Monday, April 10, the Blood mobile will be at the Red Cross chapter house, 60 Haw thorne ave., from 3 to 7 p.m. On Tuesday the hours will be from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. . Appointments may be made by telephoning SPring 3-3813. Patton, manager of the Med ford office of the state em ployment service, said today. Several logging firms ana some . sawmills resumed op erations,' and there was a small increase in construction work in the area, he said. " These changes took place in firms which had been shut down because of bad weather,, he added. ' "There were no major lay offs,, and no. large callbacks of employees," Patton . said, "but some improvement in the local work situation took place." These claims represent people who have located here in recent months,, but have not yet established a firm job attachment in this area, Pat ton added. -, - --; . ' A boat natrol will start op erating this week end ' in Jackson county, Sheriff Jos Walsh said today, ' The Rogue Aqua Ski club will be asked to assist, ho said, ..-.--. ." , The patrol is now a roving one, making spot checks at all boating areas in the coun ty. However, Walsh has asked for $3,500 in the 1061-62 budget to cover marine equip ment and to purchase a sec ond boat. This would ba kept at Emigrant lake where most of the boating traffic Is ex pected, he said. V "We will have a patrol at Howard Prairie lake when general trout season opens April 22," the sheriff an nounced. , ' ;! ' "The ' public has always been cooperative when we Were there," Walsh said with a grin. "But we have had some trouble witV fishermen moving directly in' front of ski-boats," he added. The sheriff said all safety regulations will be enforced, including carrying proper st.fety equipment and obeying the zoning restrictions. Zones for fishing and skiing were established last year for How ard Prairie. - " A new regulation , expected for legislative approval is one requiring a person to act as lookout in each boat towing a water-skier, or require a rear-view mirror on the boat. Walsh noted four serious water-skiing accidents last season in which skiers were run over by boats towing them. Main violations of the state marine boating regula tlons last season were reck less operation of boats, Walsh said. That law went into op eration for the first time last summer. k- s ..
