WESTERN LEAGUE United Press International The Spokane Comets defeat ed Portland 5-4 in the final game of the regular Western Hockey league season Sunday night. Possibility of Gunplay Aboard Plane Dismissed Nuernberg, Germany -flffD- Medical investigators today dismissed the possibility that some of the 52 victims of a Czech plane crash last Tues day had been shot to death. Dr. Alex Neiss, head of the investigating team, said X- rays of all the bodies were completed last midnight. Medical men can say for sure that the bodies did not contain bullets," he said. "For mer indications - that this might have been the cause of death did Dot prove true af ter closer examination," Pistol in Wreckage The plane, a Soviet built turboprop airliner, crashed near Forchhelm on a flight between Prague and Zurich. Voters in the small parish (county) lying on the Missis sippi border will decide in an April 22 election whether to close public schools rather than Integrate them. Communist China Agrees To Release American Prisoner London - (UPD - Communist Province High Peoples Court Soil Conservation Requests Studied Yreka The soil conserva tion service small watershed reconnaissance team spent a week In Yreka recently study ing the feasibility of two re quests for assistance under the small watershed act. The team consisted of two engineers and two economists. They met with the directors of the Shasta Valley Soil Conservation district, the di rectors of the Montague Wa ter Conservation district and some of the farmers in the dis tricts to determine present crop yields and to obtain cost data. This information will be used to determine a cost-benefit ratio for the project. The Montague district's ditches were studied to determine what might be done to cut down on transmission losses. The team then spent an equal amount of time on a re connaissance of a flood con trol and Irrigation project for the Hornbrook area. Priest Kills Church Burglar Denver -(UPD- A Roman Catholic priest shot and killed one burglar who was attempt ing to steal the Easter collec tion of his church Sunday night and may have wounded another. The Rt. Rev. Msgr. Dellsle Lemieux, pastor of St. Cathe rine's Catholic church, sur prised -the burglar in the act of rifling a buffet in the rec tory dining room where the collection had been hidden. Police identified the burglar as Richard Eugene Sanders, an ex-convict. He died on the operating table at Denver General hospital of a shotgun wound in the stomach. Detective Capt. Roy Tangye said the 58-year-old priest, who is a big-game hunter, heard a noise while In his second floor study, armed himself with a shotgun and a 32-caliber pistol and entered the dining room on the floor below. He pointed the shotgun at Sanders and another man and ordered them to stand still. Tangye said the priest told him the two men lunged at him and one of them wrestled the shotgun away from him. The clergyman said he warn ed the burglars that he had another gun and would shoot, but the prowlers paid no at tention and tried to brush past him. . The priest grabbed the shot gun back and fired, hitting Sanders in the stomach. He then fired three times with the pistol at the second fleeing burglar. The old contract expired Friday night but contract talks were extended. Just before leaving Hong Kong, she said she would plead with leaders of the Peiplng Red regime to permit her to take her ailing . hus band home. .'. Happy Over Prospects Mrs. McCann; who had been with her husband in Tientsin, China, before his arrest June 14. 1951. said in Hone Kong she was told her husband did not have long to live. But she bore up bravely and said she was happy over the prospects of their reunion. The American Red Cross sent a special representative from the Philippines to Hong Kong to assist Mrs. McCann.
