Sojourners, Guests View New Fashions at Luncheon Spring and summer cloth ing was modeled for over 140 Sojourners club members and their guests at a desert luncheon held In the Girls Community club Thursday afternoon. Models were Mrs. John La den, Mrs. Herbert Rowe, Mrs. Gerald Schwinler, Mrs. Gene Chamberlain, Mrs. Jack Burkette, Mrs. Robert Bab cock, Mrs. Marvin Slavens, Mrs. Ethan Fordyce and Mrs. Dee Wood. The show was staged by Town and Country Dress shop, White City, with Mrs. M. H. Parsons serving as com mentator. Hats were from Hadley's and shoes from Bar leson's Shoe salon. Mrs. Fred Konschot of Fu rucker's played organ num bers during the luncheon and provided background music for the fashion show. Mrs. James Winslow was general chairman of the event. Her committee includ ed Mrs. R. T. Jones, Mrs. Paul Johnson, Mrs. C. C. GriffitU, Mrs. A. B Davis and Mrs. Oscar Rasmu6sen. Mrs. Cham berlain was chairman of the fashion show. Among gowns which creat ed particular interest was a light blue silken linen worn by Mrs. Laden. It was chosen as suitable for a "mother of the bride" and for other spec ial events. Also popular was a red jersey fashion coat worn by Mrs. Burkett. It was re versible, for all-weather, and featured a floral taffeta lin ing and matching umbrella. She wore a basic sleeveless sheath of white linen under the coat. Other ensembles which were well-liked by women at me luncneon were a cocKtau dress in turquoise blue bro cade, worn by Mrs. Chamber lain; a back-buttoned orange and beige sheath, worn by Mrs. Babcock; and a sweater dress of cotton, rayon and linen with orlon sweater, modeled by Mrs. Fordyce. Prizes Given The club room was decorat ed with pink crepe paper streamers. Dessert was served at tables centered with geran iums and the plants were later given as prizes at each table. Cards followed the style revue with prizes going to Mrs. Stanley Horton, guest, and Mrs. Asa Lemon for pin ochle; Mrs. Gene Venekamp, guest, and Mrs. Nina Chand ler for canasta; and Mrs. R. H. Finnell, guest, and Mrs. Ella Torgerson for bridge. Special Drizes were received by Mrs. Andrew Foley, Mrs. Elmer Program Planned For Alpha Rho; Rushing Begins Alpha Rho chapter of Beta Sigma Phi will hear a pro gram by Mrs. Vern Craft on "Tools for the Art of Life- Action" at its meeting Tues day, March 28, at the home of Miss Florence Robison. Cohostesses will be Mrs. Donald Bills and Mrs. Robert Goodman. The chapter held its spring rush party last evening at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Lou Cranston, 2233 Siskiyou bou levard. Theme for the event was "The Roaring Twenties." At the last meeting of the group Donald Lacy, speech instructor at Crater High school, talked on the art of good speaking. Miss Jan Bateman, . a student of Mr Lacy s, gave an oration, en titled "Who Art Thou Ethio pia?" The meeting was held at the home of Mrs. Bills with Mrs. Steven Hess as cohostess A model meeting was held earlier at the home of Mrs, Hess with the program "Na ture's Landscape and the Art ists' Landscape. 1 Annual Dinner Held by Lodge Gold Hill - Past Noble Grands' club of Amethyst Re bekah lodge held its annual potluck dinner last Wednes day at the IOOF hall. Guesls were families and friends of club members. Mrs. Joe Lewis was general chairman for the affair. Mrs. Lester Parker, incoming pres ident of the . group assisted Mrs. Lewis with arrange ments. Mrs. Walter McLean was in charge of the evening's entertainment which included both guessing and active games. The next meeting of the Past Noble Grands club will be held Thursday, April 20 at 8 p.m. at the home of Mrs. Thomas Z. Smith. It was announced that Ame thyst Rebekah lodge will meet at 7:30 p.m. Wesdnesday, April 5 instead of the regular time. Following a brief busi ness session the Rebekahs will go to Central Point where they will attend Friendship night at Mt. Pitt Rebekah lodge. Members of the Gold Hill lodge will provide a skit as a part of the evening's entertainment. One meets Tuesday afternoon with Mrs. Victoria Staley as teacher and the sec ond meets Saturday afternoon Anniversary Observed Ashland - In celebration of their 45th wedding anniver sary, Mr, and Mrs. Jess Buck les were honored March IS at a surprise party when their children and grandchildren ar rived unexpectedly at. the family home on Otis street. - Refreshments and gift for the couple were brought for the occasion by Mr. and Mrs-. Balferd Buckles and Mr. and Mrs. Keith Peterson, Ashland, and Mr. and Mrs. Clifford Curl of Medford, the couple's son and daughter, and by the granddaughters. Mr. and Mrs. Buckles have lived in Ashland for the past 18 years. They were married in Kansas in 1916. with Clifford Platz. Eight, classes a week are on the present schedule. Interested j persons are welcome to drop In at any time during sched uled activities to visit and ob tain information about the varied programs. The long planned drama group will be directed by Thayer Tarvin, member of the Footllghters, who will meet with those interested Wednes day, April 5, at 3 p.m. to make plans and decide on a regular weekly meeting date. Registrations are being made at the Center or with Dr. Rob erts or Mrs. Fred Rankin.
