Balch elder, 80 Nutley street, has en tertained her sister and brother-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Clyde Burkett, Fairbanks, Alaska, for the past few months and during their visit succeeded In "selling them" on the ad vantages of life in southern Oregon. As a result the Burketts have purchased a home in Ashland and after completing their Alaskan business affairs will return to live at 906 Har mony lane. (Simonion-Walker photo) PTA Session Announced Eagle Point - Program for the February meeting of the Eagle Point Elementary Parent-Teacher association will be a demonstration by Theodore Hoffman and his class of boys, on "Safety in Firearms." Also, Richard. Wolgamott, physical education instructor, will pre sent students from the third grade in, a marching demon stration. The meeting will be held in the elementary school gym nasium Tuesday, February 28, at 7:30 p.m.- , Refreshments will be served by mothers of students in the fourth grade, and child care will be provided. Mrs. Raymond Palm, gen eral chairman in charge of presenting two one-act plays as a fund-raising endeavor, reports that the project was a success and apparently well accepted In the community. Proceeds were used to pur chase a tape recorder for the school. It will be used by. all the teachers in grades one through eight. Mrs. Vinson Vaughan di rected the plays, with the ad vice of Glen Foster, speech instructor at Eagle Point High school. The plays were pre sented as a dress rehearsal for the residence of the Vet erans Administration domicil iary at White City. 1 Meetings This Week Two chapters of PEO Sister hood will meet Wednesday, March 1, at 12:30 p.m. for lunch. Preceding the initiation Miss Rena Offutt was installed as third messenger replacing Miss Cora Belle Ravenor who recently transferred to a bethel nearer her home. Miss Kathleen Harsh and Miss Patricia Knapp sang a duet during the formal initia tion rites and Queen Helen appointed big sisters for the neophytes following the serv ices. Plans were formulated for members to attend the insti tution of the new bethel in Grants Pass on Saturday, Feb ruary 28. Members planning to attend were requested to meet at the Masonic hall by noon. Daughters were informed that collections for the rum mage sale to be held March 3 and 4 at the Gleason building in Central Point should be de livered to the residences of the Misses Janet Hobbs and June Hopkins in Central Point. Refreshments were served by the Misses Colleen and Patricia Knapp, Teri Lee Mar tin, and Linda Snyder with assistance from their mothers. The Misses Lee Hamilton and Rebecca Ferrell were re sponsible for tha decorations of the evening. Rose Society Slates Session; Chairmen Listed V. L. Quackenbush and EI- dred W. Peyton will give a pruning demonstration at a meeting of the Medford Rose society February 27 in the county court house. W. Hendrixson, secretary. They may be mailed to her at 360 Morton avenue, Ashland. Speaker at the evening event will be Oliver Aubrey, broker and investment bank er, who will speak on "How to Protect Your Dollars." The club meets at the Mark Antony hotel at 7:30 p.m. Get Together Club To Hold Luncheon Get Together club plans a potluck luncheon Friday, March 3 at the Girls Commu nity club. The serving com mittee will be Mrs. Lydia Ash, Mrs. Anna McCormick, Mrs. Maude Lovell and Mrs. Mae Gottfried. Members are asked to bring their old Christmas cards to this meeting. Olin Rice, 147 North Ivy street, are shown cutting a cake served at a reception which observed their sixtieth wedding anniversary. The event was held at the home of Mr. and Mrs. E. Ronald Rice, 215 Saginaw drive their ton and daughter-in-law. Anniversary Celebrated Mr. and Mrs. C. Olin Rice 147 North Ivy street, were honored recently at a recep tion which observed their 60th wedding anniversary. Hosts for the event were their only son, E. Ronald Rice, and Mrs Rice, 215 Saginaw drive. Only close friends of the two couples attended the in formal event. Pink potted azaleas and pink carnations decorated the home. Mr. and Mrs. Rice were married in Emporia, Kan. January 23, 1001. Both will be 85 years old in April. Among the guests were their granddaughter, Mrs. Charles Martin, Mr. Martin and their three children Margy Lynn, Karen Ann and Dayn Charles, Eagle Point. The honored couple has an other granddaughter, Mrs David Shearer, who makes her home in Madras, Ore., with Mr. Shearer and their son Ronald Scott. The Rices came to Medford from Spokane where they liv cd for many years. Mothers of Twins To Meet Thursday Members of the Mothers o Twins club will hold their monthly meeting at 8 p.m Thursday, March 2, at th home of Mrs. Lee Hubler, 64; South Holly street. Schwartz, SPring 3-3542 Lodges To Hear Student Speak Members of Rebekah and Oddfellows lodges will hold a potluck dinner at 6:30 p.m. February 28 at the Oddfel lows hall. Following the din ner Miss Linda Lewis, Ash land, will report on the visit she made last summer to the United Nations. She was spon sored by the Oddfellows and Rebekahs of Jackson county. Olive Rebekah lodge has scheduled a meeting for 8 p.m. March 6. A sack lunch will follow the business ses sion. All Rebekah members will be welcome. Olive Rebekah members met Monday, February 20, in the Oddfellows hall for a reg ular session and program. K. G. Stockhoff showed colored sides of the Roseburg disaster and the earthquake in 'Mon tana. Several, musical numbers were performed by Miss Ber nice Mahan and Tom Field. Refreshments were served by Mrs. P. M. Aldredge and her committee. Decorations had been planned in observance of George Washington's birth day.
