It will be the first benefit planned to raise money to build a new Senior Center, The executive board of the Rogue Valley Council on Aging will meet Thursday, February 16, at 3 p.m. at the Senior Center to make final plans for the annual meeting to he held February 23 at the Red Cross chapter house, 60 Hawthorne avenue. All committee chairmen are to take written annual reports, according to Frank Glonning, council chairman. . . 1 Penny Valentines The lowly penny is still something more than a mone tary unit with which to pay sales taxes. (Knackstedt photo) Citations Presented At Banquet Four members and two counselors of the Young Women's auxiliary of First Southern Baptist church re ceived citations of award at a recent youth banquet. The Woman's Missionary union of Siskiyou Association of South ern Baptist churches held the banquet at Girls Community club. Honored by the association were the Misses Carol Seng, Rose Kercher, JoAnn Holm strom and Jean Williams. Mrs. Thomas Hensley is coun selor for the group and Mrs. Robert Klusman is youth di rector. Mrs. Hensley and Mrs. Klusman were also cited for their work. Miss Anne Foster, Portland, representative of the Woman's Missionary Union of South ern Baptist churches in Wash ington and Oregon, was guest speaker for the banquet and presented the citations. The auxiliary is a mission ary organization for single girls, 16 to 24 years of age, and the citations are given to individual members who have excelled in missionary en deavor by meeting designated requirements. There are 79, 000 members of the organiza tions in the United States. The local event was the first such service - held in southern Oregon. A total of 102 dinner guests attended. Nurses To Hear Two Speakers Two speakers are on the program for a meeting of Oregon Nurses association, District 4, to be held Tuesday, February 14, at 8 p.m. at the Public Health department, Jackson county courthouse. Miss Ethel Shumway, psy chiatric social worker for the southern Oregon family and child guidance clinic, and Dr. A. Erin Merkcl, Jackson coun ty health officer, will be the speakers. All registered nurses in the area are invited to attend. Day of Prayer To Be Observed Gold Hill-Women's groups from the Methodist, Assembly of God and Christian churches will combine to hold a World Day of Prayer Service Fri day, February 17, at the Gold Hill Christian church. The service will be held at 1 p.m. Plan Memorial Rites A memorial service for members of the Veterans of World War I, barracks and auxiliary, who have died since the group was organized will be held at the Wednes day, February 15, meeting of the group. The evening will begin with a potluck dinner at 7 p.m. at the Girls Community club.
