Stults, 304 West Jackson street. The couple's children. and grandchildren were hosts for the event. (Knackstedt photo) Open House Honors Couple On Fiftieth Anniversary Mr. and Mrs. E. L. Stulls, 304 West Jackson street wore honored at an open house Feb ruary 5 on the occasion of their 50th wedding anniver sary. More than 140 friends and relatives visited the Stults home between 2 and 4:30 p.m. Mrs. Stults wore a blue silk print dress with a gold orchid corsage. Serving the cake and punch were Mrs. R. C. Broadbeck, Mrs. L. Phillips, Mrs. W. B. Cole, daughters of the couple, and Miss Bonnie Broadbeck, a granddaughter. Miss Carolyn Cole and Miss Ellen Broad beck, also granddaughters of the honored couple, were at the gift table and in charge of the guest book. Among the out of town Lodge Plans Homecoming Gold Hill - Amethyst tfie bekah lodge will observe homecoming Wednesday, Feb ruary 15 at 8 p.m. Mrs. Walter McLean is pro gram chairman. Mrs. Clarence Parsley, no ble grand, said plans will be discussed for a card party to benefit the building fund. Refreshments will be serv ed during the social hour by Mrs. Parsley and Mrs. Delos Walker. Mrs. Donald Morrow, vice president of Amethyst Re bekah Friendship club, will be hostess for a meeting and social hour of the group at her home, Monday, February 20, at 8 p.m. Past Noble Grands club will meet at the home of Mrs, James Clement Thursday, February 23 at 8 p.m. Last meeting of the club was held at the home of Mrs. Daniel Stewart. Faculty Member To Be Speaker "Significance of Kindergar ten" will be the topic of Dr. Phyllis Butler, faculty mem ber of the education depart ment at Southern Oregon col lege, when she speaks to the Southern Oregon Preschool association Monday, February IS, at 7:30 p.m. The meeting will be held at Mary's Casa, 537 Mary street. Dr. Butler has done advanced study in the field of preschool education, and has taught in the public schools and in kindergarten. Teachers, parents, and those interested in preschool educa tion are invited to the meeting. guests was the couple's son, Delbert Stults, Van Nuys, Calif. Plant Course Recommended; Projects Listed Central Point - Dr. Louis Gentner discussed "Plants, Their Structure and Function" at a meeting of Central Point Garden club February 1. Mrs. Leo Ghelardi, Old Stage road, was hostess. Dr. Gentner explained the manner in which water is taken from the soil by plants the basic idea of plant growth and the "remarkable distribu tion system" built into plants for obtaining moisture andnu- trition. He recommended participa tion in the four -day plant growth short course which County Horticultural Agent Clifford Cordy will conduct. Mrs. C. L. Morehouse won the corsage presented by the club. The March 1 meeting will be held at 1:30 p.m. at the home of Mrs. Charles Jantzer, 1734 Beall lane. Assisting hostesses will be Mrs. Lester Gordon and Mrs. Steve Ben-slon. 'Decisions' Program Set Today The moral and spiritual challenge involved in the Great Decisions, an annual citizens review of foreign poli cy issues, will be presented by ministers and laymen at the First Methodist church this afternoon at 3 o'clock. The problem of how to save the peace will be considered by a panel of ministers and laymen. The subject will be "The Churches Role in Sav ing the Peace." Dr. George G. Roseberry will be moderator with panel members the Rev. Thomas McCamant, Congregat i o n a 1 church; the Rev. Escil Hiser, Church of the Brethren; Clyn ton Crisman, Medford Friends church; the Rev. G. Robert Jacks, First Presbyterian church, and two laymen, Ber nard Kelly, representing the Roman Catholic church and Mrs. H. P. Bosworth Jr., rep resenting St. Mark's Episcopal church. This program is sponsored by the Medford chapter of the Oregon United Nations asso ciation in collaboration with The Great Decisions' committee. Recent valley visitors were Mr. and Mrs. Reed Bridgeford, Rochester. Mich., who visited at the son of their son-in-law and daughter, Mr. and Mrs. John W. Hoogerheide, 1408 Crown avenue. Mr. Bridgeford is manager and trainer for the Dodge stables in Rochester and while in Oregon visited horse ranches. Program Listed For Garden Club Birds and Roses Topics for Club Jacksonville A three-part program is planned for a meeting of the Jacksonville Garden club, Thursday, Feb ruary lfi. at 1 -SO rxm of ha Jacksonville Community hall. A talk on Song Birds of the Area" will be given by Mrs. Frank Janosky. The con tinuity program on roses will be, "Pruning and Spraying of Roses," by Mrs. Kenneth Far ley. A talk on "Planning To days Garden for Tomorow's Flowers," will be given by Mrs. Leonard McKee. Horticulture exhibits are in vited and anyone interested in gardening and horticulture is invited to attend. The tea committee will be Mrs. Everett Ravenor and Mrs. Dee Hendrickson. Bethel 14To Meet Wednesday Bethel 14, International Or der of Job's Daughters, will meet at 7:30 p.m., Wednesday, February 15, with . Honored Queen Barbara Morton pre siding. Miss Janet Sherrill is chair man of the refreshment com mittee for the evening, and will be assisted by the Misses Jeri Shouts, Sherron Smets, Delores Smith, Kathy Smith, Kay Sneed, Sandra Stevens, Jane Stinson and their moth ers. Clarence Smith, choir direc tor, has called a practice ses sion to precede the meeting tieginning at 6:30 p.m. in the Medford Masonic temple. Masonic Night Jacksonville - Masons of Adarel chapter, Order of East ern Star, will be honored at a "Masonic night" meeting Thursday, February 16, in Jacksonville Masonic temple. The session will begin at 8 p.m. Donald Shores, chairman of refreshments, will be assisted by Wallace Brill, William Childers, Don Wendt and Earl Childers. Mr. and Mrs. Fred M. Gardner are worthy patron and matron. Shady Cove-Trail A talk on gophers, moles and rodents will be given at the Monday, February 13, meeting of the Shady Cove Garden club at the home of Mrs. Max Hawks, Rogue River drive, Shady Cove. Tips on composting will be given during a talk on erosion and conservation. One of the projects of the garden club was decorating the Chapel at the Veterans Administration domiciliary, White City, February 11. The last meeting of the club was held January 9 at the home of Mrs. Delbert Spain, Shady Cove. Mrs. William Sheppard gave a talk on houseplant culture and care and demonstrated with vari ous cuttings. One of the main projects this year is the weekly deco rating of the tables for the children in the Shady Cove school cafeteria. One member prepares, the displays for an entire week. Hostesses were Mrs. Travis Littlefield and Mrs. Carl Hanson. Care of Roses Topic for Club A talk on sprays and care of roses was given by Henry Sommcrcr of Monarch Feed and Seed company at a meet ing of the Little Garden Club of Medford Wednesday, Feb ruary 8. Mrs. G. O. Bradley was hostess. Mrs. Waller Marquess won a prize of a rose bush. Mrs. Richard Tilley, Mrs. Clair Young and Mrs. Dee Wood were guests. Variety of Topics Listed For Four Extension Units Four home extension units have scheduled meetings this week. A variety of topics will be discussed. Oak Grove The Oak Grove unit will hold a project on pillow mak ing when they meet Tuesday, February 14, at the home of Mrs. S. B. Sandburg, 225 Re nault avenue, at 10:30 a.m. Those attending are to take one yard of corduroy, heavy duty thread, pencil, needles, pins, thimble and a yard stick as well as their own table service. The group will meet at the home of Mrs. Bruce Bateman, 3040 Table Rock road, Tues day, February 14, at 7:45 p.m. Co-hostesses in charge of re freshments will be Mrs. Petor Bateman and Mrs. J. T. Drew. Lone Pine Mrs. W. C. Ricks will give a lesson on landscaping at the Thursday, February 16, 10:30 a. m. meeting of the Lone Pine unit at the Roxy Ann Grange hall. Mrs. W. E.
