Ashland Club Marks Anniversary Ashland - Ashland Business and Professional Women's club celebrated its third anni versary of organization Wed nesday evening with a buffet dinner in Wesley house served from a table gay with spring blossoms in the club colors of gold and green. The business session was conducted by the president, Mrs. Louise Myers, following a musical program in which Mrs. Zola Peters, guest soloist, took her audience "around the world on wings of song." Us ing a score of familiar melo dies and accompanying her self at the piano, Mrs. Peters invited the group to join her in singing many of the popu lar refrains. The club went on record endorsing the current local movement to ask that the new First National bank building conform to a Tudor or Eliz abethan style of architecture. It also voted to work for legis lation now under study by the stale legislature that would control dissemination of ob scene materials through the mails. A resume of the first club year and its accomplishments was presented by Mrs. Mar jorie Peterson, charter mem ber and organizing president. Additional history was added by Mrs. Myers. Mrs. Lilah Jennings, vice-president, gave a report of the recent district conference in Eugene. A spirited auction of "white elephants" closed the birth day celebration. Mrs. Alice Willits headed the committee in charge of the event. President's Letter On Chapter Agenda A president's letter. will be read at a meeting of chapter AA, PEO Sisterhood, Wednes day, February 8, at the home of Mrs. M. D. Jones, 49 South Modoc avenue. Assisting host esses will be Mrs. John Col lins and Mrs. R. J. Cunning ham. W. Krueg er, 726 South Holly street, announce the engagement of their daughter, Virginia Rae, to Duane Daniels, son of Mr. and Mrs. Edward Daniels, Phoenix. Miss Krueger is a senior at St. Mary's High school. Her fiance, a graduate of Phoenix High school in 1959, is serv ing with the airborne division of the Army. He Is stationed at Fort Campbell, Kentucky. Their wedding is set for June. Women's Council Sets Guest Day Husbands and friends of members will be guests at a dinner meeting of Christian Business and Professional Wo men's council of Medford at Rogue Valley Country club, Tuesday February 7, at 6:30 p.m. Speaker will be the Rev. J. G. Hunter, Willow Creek, Calif. He is a village mission ary. Another program feature is to be announced. Music will be provided by Dr. and Mrs. Milton Snow. . Regular sizes 8 to 20. at Phone SP 2-8992 MEDFOHD Mothers To Raise Scholarship A full scholarship for a stu dent at Oregon State college is the goal of Oregon State Mothers clubs of Jackson county. The members made plans for a rummage sale to finance their scholarship at a meeting recently in the home of Mrs. Lloyd Parsons, 2329 East Main street. The sale is the only money raising project of the club. It will be held at the Fehl build ing, 106 North Ivy street, February 10 and 11 from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Rummage will be accepted at the building the evening of February 9 from 7 to 9 p.m. or anytime Friday, February 10. Contri butions may also be left at Mrs. Parsons' home, 2329 East Main street, at 413 North Co lumbus avenue, or at 2684 Crater Lake highway, any time before February 10. The group will pick up do nations if those wishing to contribute rummage will call Mrs. Parsons, SPring 2-4015; Mrs. John Schroeder, SPring 2-4765; or Mrs. Ernest Glea son, SPring 3-2834. Mrs. John A. Carter, 1111 Reddy avenue, a member of the scholarship committee, has further information on the project for anyone interested. First Lady To Disclose Discoveries Washington - lUPD-What are the "startling discoveries" Mrs. Jacqueline Kennedy has made about the White House? This was the mystery in triguing the capital today. The first lady's press secre tary, Miss Pamela Turnure, made the titilating disclosure Friday that Mrs. Kennedy came across startling discover ies during her first two weeks in the executive mansion. Mrs. Turnure said the first lady would make the discover ies public soon. She said she did not know what they were. The attractive press secre tary would say only that Mrs. Kennedy "has learned some startling things she wants to share." These things were discover ed, Miss Turnure said, during Mrs. Kennedy's tours of the White House with members of the Fine Arts commission Capital observers speculat ed about what the discoveries might be. Had Mrs. Kennedy discover ed secret passageways or rooms in the White House? Were some of the historic treasures missing? Were here tofore unknown valuable paintings and furnishings found? Keep watching for the startling conclusion of the "mystery of the White House discoveries." 1 Group Holds Initiation Insurance Women of Jack son County held initiation ceremonies for new members at the Mark Antony hotel in Ashland recently. C. M. Litwiller, Ashland, showed films of his trip to Africa and the Holy Land this summer. He accompanied the films with a narrative and showed some of the souvenirs and trophies from his safari. New members to the group who were initiated were the Misses Sharon Harden, Elsie Sterton, Giroud Davidson and Sandy Hall. A luncheon meeting is planned for Tuesday, Febru ary 7, at the Jackson hotel. Ashland Rector To Speak Here The Rev. Duane Alvord, rector of Trinity Episcopal church, Ashland, will speak at a meeting of St. Elizabeth's guild of St. Mark's church Friday, February 10. He will give a "provocative" talk on "How to observe a true Lent," according to those in charge. The guild will meet at 11 a.m. for holy communion and luncheon will be served at 12 o'clock. Mrs. John P. Moffat is the new president; Mrs. Royal Bebb, first vice-president; Mrs. Aimee Deuel, secretary; Mrs. William F. Miss Marjorie Sandfort is spending three weeks in Lima, Peru, as a guest of her sister. Miss Dorothy Sandfort, a teacher-missionary with the Methodist Board of Missions in Huan cayo. The teacher has spent the past 12 years in Peru, Miss Sandfort, who posed for the photographer while in the midst of a last-minute packing rush, is making notes for the re porter. . Shoe Store Medford, Oregon LUSTRE 75th World Prayer Day Will Be Observed Here Members of Medford Coun cil of Church Women believe that the 75th anniversary of the World Day of Prayer will be of special importance to all countries observing this world wide chain of prayer Friday, February 17. The local coun cil will meet in the First Christian church sanctuary at 10 a.m. The program, which has been arranged by Women of the United States, will present special projects for the year's consideration. These include translation and distribution of half a million books for Africa to assist in the literacy pro gram of that country. This is $75,000 special project which may be subsidized at the rate of $10 for each 50 books. The other project which will be given special attention stresses Christian concern to ward the unchurched of the new state, Alaska. The new council there has great needs Club Plans For District Session Mistletoe club of Royal Neighbors of America will meet at Girls Community club Wednesday, February 8, to make plans for the coming RNA district convention. The executive group of Royal Neighbors will meet with the club to plan the convention, which will be hold May 9 in the Pythian hall. A covered dish luncheon will be served at noon.
