JANUARY 15, 1961 Two 4-HrersTo Attend Meeting Two outstanding Jackson county 4-H club members have been selected to attend the Oregon 4-H Club confer ence in Salem, Feb. 2, 3 and 4. Selected were Alice Wool folk, Antelope, and Terry Gail, Gold Hill. While in Sa lem, delegates from all Ore gon counties will have an op portunity to observe and study the operation of state government. The group will attend some of the committee meetings. During the conference dele gates to the National 4-H Club conference will be selected. Selection will be based on rec ords of achievement, leader ship and community activities and an interview. Gail has carried projects in beef and sheep for the past nine years. He has exhibited grand champion sheep at both the county and state fair. His beef projects have won him many honors and he has placed high in judging at both the State Fair, Salem, and Cow Palace, San Francisco. His parents are Mr. and Mrs. Robert C. Gail. Miss Woolfolk has had proj ects in beef, dairy, forestry, fishing, outdoor, cookery, clothing, cooking and food preservation. Her projects have won her many champion and blue ribbons at both the county and state fair. Last fall she was the champion dairy foods demonstrator at state fair and won a savings bond and watch. She is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Ira . Woolfolk. State Police Check Two Area Accidents State police reported two acidents occurred late Thurs day afternoon and evening No injuries were reported. A one-vehicle accident oc curred Thursday night on the Crater Lake highway near the Desert service station when a pickup truck driven by Don ald Louvell Zoller, 22, of Star route, box 575, Shady Cove went out of control after pass ing a car and turned over in a ditch. Two pickup trucks driven by Charles Franklin Johnson 60, of 2297 Camp Baker rd., Phoenix, and Earl Henry Hanscom, 56, of route 2, box 669B, Central Point, collided at the junction of Coker Butte rd. and . Crater Lake ave. about 4 p.m. Thursday, state ' police said. Extensive damage resulted to the right side and under neath section of the Johnson pickup. The Hanscom truck received damage to the radia tor, grill and hood, officers said. Johnson was travelling south on Crater Lake ave. and Hanscom was entering Crater Lake ave. from Coker Butte rd., reports showed. Geese Mystery Now Solved by Russians Portland -0IPD- The State Game Commission said Friday the mystery surrounding three Russian - banded snow geese taken by waterfowl hunters at Summer Lake last fall has been solved. Russian biologists said in a letter to the commission they had banded the geese in con nection with their biological investigations on waterfowl. The three geese were trap ped and banded last July 18 on Wrangel Island some 100 miles north of the Siberian coastline in the Chuckchee sea. To reach Summer Lake in Oregon the geese traveled southeast across the sea, diag onally across the Alaskan mainland, south across the Yukon and Brtish Columbia and then south through Wash ington and Oregon - some 3,000 miles.
