Klamath's Pelicans, compet ing on their home mats, took .the varsity match 36 to 10 and were junior varsity vic 'tors 41 to 11. Contention, however, was closer in the varsity bouts than the score indicates. Three .decisions were lost by one point and two by two points. i Inability to get takedowns hurt the Medford cause. The Cavemen took 10 of the 13 bouts. Crater's individual winners were Denny Fisher and Russ Walker. Butch Barber drew with Bill Amberg of Grants Pass. Grants Pass also claimed the junior varsity laurels 44 to 11. In exhibition bouts the Cavemen had a 55 to 3 mar gin. The Cougars were ahead all the way but It was a cloje game most of- the route. Pros pect had 12 to 8, 25 to 23 and 38 to 35 leads. Much of the time St. Mary's was just point or two back. In the early fourth ehukker, the Cougars widened to a nine or 10 point lead. The Crusaders full-court pressed and cut the gap to four. A Stan Payne basket fol lowed and game wavered around a five point margin from there. Free Shots Crucial Prospect's free shooting, with the points picked up at crucial times, provided the scoring difference. SM had 19 field buckets to the Cougars 17. But, Prospect did have a fine degree of accuracy from the field, plunking in 50 per cent of its shots. The Crusaders had a 27 to 22 margin in rebounding. Gravel 9 McLoughlin Triumphs A long, foul filled, and hot spirited atmosphere was pres ent as the ninth grade basket ball five of McLoughlin Jun ior high downed the visiting freshman group from Solith Grants Pass by the score of 45 to 32. It was hard fought all the way, with Mac behind until the early part of the fourth quarter. The clutch shooting of Don Kengla, the steady play of Jim Allen, Ron Ed monds, and Chuck Kimball, and the game high scoring of Bill Houston, 18, contributed to the climb to the top after trailing 10-12 at the end of! one, 14-23 at the half, and 24-1 29 as the third period came to an end. Bauer put in the most, 15, for the visitors. Bauer and Sander of GP and Mengla and Kimball fouled out. A total of 42 miscues were written in to the books, 19 for Mac and 23 for SGP. Weather NO 4-1217 Hed Raiders Romp Ashland - Soutliern Oregon ctlege coach Ted Schopf cleared his bench here Friday night as his Red Raiders bas kelballcrs scored an easy 6B 56 win over Oregon College to run their victory skein in Oregon Collegiate conference play to 3 wins, 0 losses. In wrapping up the win, their sixth of. the season against six losses, the Raiders controlled the shooting and clearing the boards of re bounds. Big John Payne not only topped both teams in scoring 13 tallies but pulled down 14 rebounds. Earle Tichenor was not far behind in both departments with 10 points and a like num ber of retrieves. As a team the Raiders hauled in 51 stray shots to the visiting Wolves' 39. Oregon College had three men in double figures but the Raiders' overall balanced scor ing was more than enough to cinch the win. Jim Bennett, seeing his first collegiate ac tion as a varsity player top ped the losers in the scoring column with 12 tallies. Team mates Dennis Spencer with 1 1 and Steve Rankin with 10 were next in order. Shults Gives Lead Oregon College led only once in the contest, that 2-0 on a fielder by Rankin in 1:30 of play. The only Wolf threat in the opening half was when Spen cer dropped in a free throw and a jumper from the key to bring the visitors within two points, 10-8 at the 12-ininule mark. But Payne, a 6-5 junior from Medford, hit from the key and Dave Hughes added three' points on a jumper and foul shot to push the count to 15-10. Al that point, reserve guard Jack Hennon entered the game and dropped in three straight Jumpers from outside to put SOC out of reach. Hen non, seeing his first varsity action of his college career, scored nine points during the game, all in the first half. A hook shot and gift try by Tichenor, a fielder by Dave Group Changes Meeting Date Date and lime for the orga nizational meeting of the Rogue Valley Bottom Busters has been changed. The meeting is now sched uled for 8 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 21, at Howard school. The organization proposed is a SCUBA diving club. Mem bership is open to men and women 17 years of age or over. Gary Van Koten provided the winning basket for the Cavekids with about 30 sec onds left to play. Hcdrick's Hornets were in front at every intermission 14 to 6, 22 to 11 and 30 to 21.
