Riedar Kalland, Los Angeles, associate nation al director of Child Evange lism Fellowship, arrived Tuesday to meet with the local city committee of the organi zation Tuesday evening to plan a regional Child Evange lism conference. About '50 delegates from seven western states will meet in Medford May 1 to 5 at the First Church of (he Nazarene, according to Mrs. Nina Gain, local Child Evangelism di rector. "Deeper Life," a Bible study taught by Dr. Kenneth L. Miles, Seattle, Wash.; "Children of America," by Dr. Frank R. Mann of Grand Hapids. Mich., and "Children Abroad" by approximately 15 missionaries from foreign countries, will be highlights of the week, along with a course of visual aids and teaching evangelism. Pastor's Assistant Here For Brethren A Brethren service worker arrived in Medford Tuesday to become the assistant of the minister, the Rev. Escil Hiser, at the Medford Church of the Brethren. The worker, Miss Carolyn Showalter of Hopewell, Pa., received her training at the Brethren Service Center at New Windsor, Md. She will serve as an office secretary and aid in the youth program particularly on the Junior High level. Brethren Service is a vol untary youth program of the Church of the Brethren. Vol unteers in the program give one to two years of service. Miss Showalter's term will end Oct. 2, 1SB1. Unity Subject Listed For Sunday The Rev. Edith Green, D-Ore., has urged Gov. Mark Hatfield to take advantage of a federal plan to provide free food to Oregon's needy. Oregon is one of only eight states which do not share in the plan for distributing sur plus food, Mrs. Green said. She said Oregon should ac cept such food in light ot growing unemployment and increasing welfare costs. Tho federal government provides the food free and also pays the cost of shipping it to the state. The recipient state need pay only the cost of local dis tribution. "It seems to me inexcusable to be paying storage costs and having surplus foods rot ting when there are many peo ple who are actually hungry," she said.
