THURSDAY, JANUARY 5. 1961 MEDFORD MAIL TRIBUNE, MEDFORD, ORE. 8 B LOflfGS FOR NEW YORK You'd think 19-ycar-old Carol Lynlcy would be living on a pink cloud. Slip Is coslaring In 20th Ccniury-Fox's "Return To Peyton Place" and Is count ing the days until the picture is completed. She can hardly wait to get back to Now York and boy-friend Michel Scls man. Once the picture is completed she will leave the smog, traffic and current heat wave and return to the East where he will marry Selsman. (UPI Telcphoto) Lovely Picture Star Spends Time Pining Away For Absent Boy-Friend Hollywood - IUPI1 - You'd think a beautiful lfl-year-old blonde movie star would be living on a pink cloud. But Carol Lynlcy is slaked out in a dreary hotel room with nothing to do but watch television - mainly because she is in love and about to be married. A peculiar combination of girl and woman, the pink cheeked youngster is working in a new movie - which she doesn't particularly Hke-and .pining away for her fiance who lives in New York. "1 love California," said Carol with heavy sarcasm. "Who wouldn't love the smog, the traffic, the Decem ber heat wave and the 'palm trees? I can hardly wait to get back to New York." Fears, Wolves You'd almost think It was California's fault that Carol . and boy friend Michael Sels man are separated. And In a way it Is. Local customs and wolves keep her in near soli tary confinement. "I can't go but to movies here because I've already seen the new ones which get to New York first," Carol said. "And it's not safe to go out alone because of all the wolves. No matter what lime of the day or night somebody is always trying to pick me up. But if I go out with a male lricnd the gossips have us going steady. I've been out here three weeks this trip, and I have another three weeks to go. It seems like three months." Carol is costarring In 20th Century-Fox's "Return to Pey ton Place" in the role of Alli son MacKcnzie. Once the pic ture is completed she will marry Selsman who works for the studio's New York office Trained for Marriage "I've been training myself for marlragc since 1 was 10 years old," Carol said. "That's my real career. Acting is just temporary." Temporary it may be. But it s been a remunerative past lime at the rate of $43,000 a picture. Nevertheless Carol is a reluctant movie actress. "I may gel star billings, but I don't feel like a star. And I certainly don't behave like one,',' she went on. "I don't have a mink coat I don't own an automobile, and when they call me to work I come running. Besides I read all the jnovie maga jines, and no movie star does that Carol was thoughtful for a minute, then added, "have you ever heard of a star who spends her free time locked in a hotel room?"
