The father, an able executive, was then faced with the ter rible problem of trying to get the young man to see that he was mentally confused and In need of psychiatric help without making him feel that his father and mother had turned against him, and would not believe him: perhaps had even joined the gangsters. Then came the terrible problem of getting a powerful athlete into a mental hospital - against his will and perhaps with the help of a lie - which, again, would destroy the lad's faith in his father. When the lad did get to the hospital, he soon became certain that the KOTI-TV (Channel 2) WEDNESDAY 4:00 American Bnndstnnd 9:00 Chaplain's Corner 9:10 Fund-O-Rnmn 3:311 Woody Woodpecker 0:000 O'clock Report 6:1(1 TV Weatherman 6:13 Doug Edwards and News 6:311 Two Fnccs West 7:00 You Asked for It 7:30 Wnson Train 8:30 Organ Varieties 11:00 lliiwallnn Eva 10:00 Naked City u:iiu L,aie news 11:10 sign Off THURSDAY 1 1 :00 Morning Court 1 1 :30 Love That Bob 12:00 The Texan 13 :30 As the World Turns 1 :00 About Faces 1 :30 House Party 3:00 DHy In Court 3:30 Road lb Reality 3:00 Brighter Dny 3:13 Secret Storm 3:30 Edge of Night 4:00 American Bandstand 3:00 Santa's Workshop 5:30 Roy Rogers 6:00 Six O'clock Report 6:10 Weatherman 6:13 Doug Edwards 6:30 Awnrd Theater 7:00 Manhunt 7:30 Andy Griffith B:00 U.S. Marshal 8 30 The Renl McCoys 9:00 My 3 Sons 9:30 Hot Off the Wire 10:00 Jack Benny 10:30 Take A Good Look 11 00 Rawhide 13 00 Sign Off psychiatrists there had joined up with the gangsters. The father, as so commonly happens in these cases, hoped that his son would be quickly cured and hence put him in a private sanatorium where the charges each month about equalled his large salary. As a result, soon ke was badly in debt, and trying to sell his house and his car. Along the way the son became very angry with his father, and hostile to him, in spite of all the efforts the father kept making to show him that he loved him dearly and was try ing to help him. Finally, the son became a sailor and took off for parts unknown. One useful lesson the book teaches is that if a parent is not wealthy, and hence will quickly go broke if he puts his child in a very expensive private sanatorium, he had better begin by putting the lad in a state institution, and save his money for the ex penses of rehabilitating him after he comes out of the hospital. Many a woman must suffer mentally all her days because of her huge legs. Operations have been devised for the re moval of the mass of thicken ed tissue between the muscles and the skin, but surgeons to whom I have talked about this have said that they hated to attempt this type of work. The raw area left is so large that the shock to the patient can be severe and even fatal, and there may be great dif ficulty in getting the skin quickly to adhere to the muscle. If I had a daughter with such big legs, I would go to a big surgical clinic where I would talk to the men to see if any of them had performed the operations designed to re move the excess of tissue, and what their impressions were. They might say that they had attempted this work a few times and had had such poor results they had quit. go, and has said, quite truth fully, that the cause is un known, and there is no satis factory treatment. For years I have read everything I could find on this disease, and the only hopeful fact I have found is that there are some men now doing researcn on the sub- Uf HI T'C TV & RADIO TlHLI O SERVICE "Oldest Shop In So. But no cure has as yet been found. Right now, per sons who feel self-conscious about their white patches might cover them with a water - proof preparation which can be found in drug stores and at cosmetic beauty counters. Trichomoniasis in Men I receive many letters from women who complain that each time a gynecologist gets rid of the trlchomonads which have been producing in her a vaginitis, she gets the dis charge and itching back again. In many of the cases the wom an probably is .getting re infected by her husband. In some cases, the best cure for her would be a circumcision of her husband. In a recent number oi the Journal of the AMA an expert says that, in examining the husband, one should look for the tiny organisms in the urine, and in the prostatic secretion. The doctor might have added that if the man has a long foreskin, the se cretion under that should be examined. The giving of a chlortertcycline antibiotic for a week can kill the organisms if they are in the prostate gland. Whenever I am asked if circumcision is advisable I reply, yes.' The man will be better able to cleanse himself and chances for infection are reduced.
