(UPI Telephoto) Lumber Industry Advised To Keep in Close Contact With State Legislature, Congress . The AOI does not approve a three-way bill affecting the slate industrial accident com mission and the workmen's compensation law, Stewart reported. This, he noted, is an , extremely controversial measure. The present indus trial accident commission is also working on several bills, j One proposes universal cover- . It has be come a welfare fund and this trend should be stopped, he urged. Would Group Agencies The lumber industry should b'e opposed to Gov. Mark Hat field's recommendation for a stale natural resources de partment, the AOI president said. This would group sever al different government agen cies affecting natural resourc es under one department. The power companies are among the low interests who would benefit. They would have to go to one source for approval of dam construction on a riv er instead of several as they do now. "The state board of forestry and the state department of agri culture with different inter ests don't belong in one agency." "The unemployment com pensation is getting into welfare fund and should be stopped also," Stewart sug gested. The timber tax problem should be well on a way to ward solution with both Geor gia Pacific and Weyerhaeuser companies joining forces to fight the problem. Stewart in vited the SOCFTA members to attend the AOI forestry committee meeting in Eugene on Dee. 16. . Likes Duncan : Summarizing the General ns political picture in the slate legislature Stewart said Har ry Bolvan, state senator from Klamath Falls, would be pres ident of the senate, and Rob ert Duncan, state representa tive of Medford, and speaker of the house during the last legislative session would hold that position. He described Boivan as an attorney with considerable business interests, a wide va riety of experience, a good man and will make good com mittee appointments. The AOI head described Duncan as a Democrat of "the liberal line" and "basically not too bad." He will make good committee assignments. F. F. M. "Monte" Mont gomery, Lane county Repub lican, minority leader of the house, will work well with the governor, he said. Anlhony Yturri, Republi can from Harney,' Grant, and Malheur counties, is a con servative who will also work closely with the governor, he said. Budget 'Pretty Realistic' The AOI head described the governor's budget "higher than h I but pretty realis tic in view of inflation and the demand for more public services. He also noted that the "peo ple in Medford helped remove Charles Porter, fourth dis trict congressman, from of fice. "I hope we have some one in thore who will listen to ns now." Purpose is to give legisla tors an idea of what the fiscal problems are prior to opening of the session. The special committee, made up of 10 senators and 15 representatives, will meet with the iscal committee Monday through Friday and Straub Announces AgencMor Demo Caucus Monday rs Salem - IUPD - State gSSi. Robert Straub, Democratic state chairman, Saturday an nounced the agenda for the Democratic senate caupus scheduled here Monday night. As precedence ror calling the caucus, Straub cited cau cuses called by Bob Boyer, Democratic chairman in 1956 and by Dave Epps, chairman in 1958. "Without a caucus at this time," Straub said, "many im portant matters will be left unattended until the senate convenes." Agenda Told The agenda was given as follows: 1. Selection of a candidate for senate president. 2. Election of a majority leader and other floor leaders. 'Bald' Woman Held for Forgery Los Angeles - IUPD - Court room observers gasped Friday when pretty Mrs. Jo Ann Mor row, 24, removed her turban to reveal a head nearly as bald as a billiard bail. Police said the Covina, Calif., brunette shaved off her hair so employees at a South P a s a d e na , Calif., market wouldn't recognize her as a passer of $243 worth of bad checks. Conscience - stricken, Mrs. Morrow then surrendered to police. Municipal Judge Louis W. Kaufman refused to reduce her $5,000 bail and fixed Dec. 23 for her superior court trial on forgery charges. 3. Method of selecting fcgis lative employees. Straub said that in Novem ber he had asked Senate Pres ident Walter Pearson CD-Portland) to call a caucus, but the request was refused. Medford Woman Is Candidate for list McMinnville - Mrs, Carol Schmid, 1308 Eureka circle, Medford, is one of 12 seniors at Linfield college, McMinn ville, named for listing in the 1961 edition of Who's Who Among Students In American Colleges and Universities. Mrs. Schmid is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. W. C. David- New Program Noted For Young Navy Men Young Navy men may re ceive prolonged and intensive training early in their careers, according to a new program for enlisted men announced Friday by Chief Murray. J. Emmerich of the Medford Navy recruiting office. "This program iff open only to men in certain critical rating fields and is a result of the Navy's ever increasing need for skilled technicians," Murray explained. "It is de signed for men who have served at least one year, but not more tban four years in the Navy."
