Christmas Present To the Editor: The Republi cans are preparing to pass the Buck to the Democrats. That's going to be the Democrats Christmas present, a 48c hot potato in a paper sack. Everett Acklin, Ashland, Ore. Help th Babes To the Editor: Under the Lost and Found column of this paper is a little advertisement. It's like so many other ads ap pearing there, sort of "plead ing," but highly doubtful. Only I happen to know this particular ad has a tragic lit tle story. I am just a friend and neighbor of the family who so unfortunately lost a box of clothing, linens, children's clothes, etc., of no particular value to anyone other than the family to which they belong. I feel it should be known that a little widowed mother of two babies suffered this loss, and is1 seriously in need of the box and contents. In cluded in the package are also the babies' birth certificates and a watch that is of senti mental value. The box was somehow jogged off an old trailer around noon, between Grants Pass and Gold Hill. I had hoped some good person would come on it, or return it to the state or local police, as all have been notified. As yet there has been no response to the ad. The mother is in near hys terics over the loss. If any of you good people reading this can give us any information at all regarding the where abouts of these lost articles, would you please call? Right now, when we are about to honor the birth of a cherished Babe of history, is a very good time to remember there are also little babes right here, to whom we can lend a little love too, by help ing their worried mother lo cate their lost possessions. Eternal Vigilance To the Editor: Replying to Vern Wolthoff's letter on the riot film-he states, "In the in terest of accuracy," then goes on to say "so far as I know," which sort of destroys his ac-curacy-and then implies that the un-American Activities committee employs the "Big Lie" technique, which tends to put a doubt in the mind of the reader which, and to use Mr. Wolthoff's own words, "whether this waf done delib erately or not"-has the same effect of aiding and abetting the Communist line. It is this assist that the Communists get that is so dangerous.. Mr. Wolthoff's statement that the facts were distorted is of small significance when com' pared to the fact that the stu- dents WERE THERE and DID . kiut and used communistic tactics in doing so. One would ask Mr. Wolthoff-"Why are you defending them?" These riots have been going on in other parts of the world, they helped overthrow Syngman Rhee in Korea, and similar student Communist inspired riots both in Japan and Tur key, but this is the first time that the Communists have felt bold enough to try it on Amer ican soil and makes it visi ble that "what can't happen here, is already beginning to heppen." When Communist in- pired riots attack the com mittee hearings so viciously, from the outside, as to hoe down or prevent the normal functioning of such a duly es- taonsned committee of the United States Congress, it is time for good Americans to come to their senses. It is time for every good American to begin supporting this commit tee, instead of finding fault with it. The Congressional Record may show fewer Communists today, yet the fact that Con gress has appropriated a large sum of money for this com- mittee s use only shows the success of the committee's work, and the seriousness of the situation. It is easily un derstood why Communists would like to kill this commit tee. In answer to the query, wnat is the John Birch Soci ety?", the John Birch Society a group of Americans throughout the nation dedi cated to the task of eliminat ing the Communist influence our country. Abraham Lincoln told is that if this country is ever conquered it will be from within and not from without we should be ever mindful that eternal vigilance is the price of liberty. I have no shed to keep my wood dry, I have no garage to keep my car dry. Boy! O boy, thanks to 55 per cent of the people on Ben son st. They think I need a beautiful $825 paved street in front of my home. So my chil dren can go with a little less food and a little less clothing. If I was to buy a $825 fur coat and let my children go with a little less food and a little less olothlng, which one of these 55 per cent would be the first to turn me in to the child welfare board? The "wavering balance" seems to have been more rightly adjusted by the Asso ciated Press reporting from London via the Christian Sci ence Monitor, Nov. 29. The conservative Daily Mail said: "The Americans, who have played fairy godmother to Europe for so long, are getting tough about their for eign policy. America could balance its books tomorrow by cutting down foreign aid alone. Brit ain, along with the rest of the western alliance, must ac cept the cort of alliance. 'European prosperity is founded on American gener osity," said the conservative Daily Mail. The imperialist Daily Express said: "Britain's policy and duty are clear: to squeeze the (support costs) money out of Germany on the Americans account and to bring her own soldiers home. She (Germany) sits on her growing pile of gold-($8,400,-000,000, three times the Brit ish total) while the sons Of other nations defend her." And whp, in obvious self- party interest, started the one time Confident dollar into its present unstable and wav ering balance? No other than FDR who must have included the world in his grandoise fireside chat. "No man shall go hungry," as he ladeled out our tax-dollars here and there. Party-liner HST boosted it along, its happy world-acceptance momentum carrying on through the Eisenhower ad ministration, whose persistent veto did slow it down some what.
