Hoffa has made a bid lo improve his re lations with President-elect John F. Kennedy. The two have been feuding ever since the Senate rackets inquiry into the Teamsters. Another union official, Hoffa aide Harold Gibbons, fold a news conference the Teamsters would . give the President-elect "whatever sup port is available to us" in mailers on which Kennedy and the union agree. He indi cated the union would back Kennedy without reservation on foreign policy. United, Eastern Sign Deals for Boeing Airplanes New York -IUT1I- Two air lines have signed deals total ing $350 million with the Boe ing Airplane Company for fleets of new, shorlcr.-range jet airlines to serve U.S. cities where jets have never landed. Eastern Air Lines and United Air Lines each bought 40 of the new Boeing 727, Willi deliveries lo begin be fore the end of 1963. It was x one of the biggest transac tions in American transporta tion history. Engines at Rear The' swept-wing 727, little sister of Boeing's long-range 707 jetliner will have three Pratt & Whitney engines mounted at the rear, a design similar to the French Cara- velle. The new jets will carry 70 lo 114 passengers, will fly at up to 600 miles an hour with a range of 150 to 1,700 miles, and will be able lo land on runways that .can not handle present Jets, Boeing officials said. Malcolm A. Mac Inlyrc, president of Eastern, said his airline would be able to ex tend Jet service to cities like Syracuse, N. Y., Conn., Char lotto, N, C. and Birmingham. Ala. J. A.
