Klrkland West will preach on "Never Forget To Be Thankful" In a special Thanksgiving message. The youth choir under the direction of Lynn SJolund will sing "Let the Mountains Shout For Joy," at the early service and the chancel choir will sing "Psalm ISO" at the 11 service. Mrs. Herbert Hun ter, soprano, will sing "Fear Not Ye, 0 Israel" for both the 9:30 and the 11 a.m. services. Junior High Fellowship will meet Sunday at 5 p.m. at the church for Part II "A Sur vey of Our Town," which will Include reports from inter views on conditions in Med ford. Fireside will be an nounced. Youth Fellowship for senior highs will meet at 7 p.m. at the church for a program to be led by Warren Wolf. Fire side will follow at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Robert Har ris, 759 Garfield St. Geneva Fellowship will meet Friday at 8 p.m. to be guests of the Methodist col lege age group at a square dance. Youth night is held each Wednesday at 5:43 p.m. beginning with a potluck sup per and followed by devotions at 6:15 p.m. Choir practice is from 7 to 8 p.m. Westminster Westminster Presbyterian church will meet for worship Sunday at 11 a.m. when the Rev. John O. Reynolds will speak on the subject "The Faith of Our Fathers." Children from 5 to 10 years of age are Invited to attend Children's church at 11 a.m. The children sit in the front of the church and, after a message for them, depart to one of the classrooms for mission study. Nursery care Is available for children up to five years. Parents of church school children are invited to attend the adult study class which meets in the pastor's office at 9:45 a.m. Children's and youth classes meet at the same hour in the various depart ments. This fall, special con centration Is being given to fie life of Christ In all depart ments. The Senior High Youth Fellowship will meet Sunday at 7 p.m. at the Youth build ing. A meeting on Christian hymns will be led by DcEUa Lawson and fireside will be held at the home of Shcryl Carver, 2110 East Main st. Gerald Wheeler a member of the Wycllffe Bible Transla- ters will speak Wednesday at 7:30 p.m. of the work of tills mission movement. Mr. Whee ler recently completed lin guistic studies at the Univer sity of Washington and Is preparing to be assigned to a South American field where his task will be that of re ducing a spoken language to writing and translating the Bible Into that language. Discipleship Course To Begin Sunday Sunday at Eastwood Baptist church at the 8:45 a.m church school hour, the Rev, Clifford J. Young, pastor, will begin a discipleship course for boys and girls of Junior age. He will use as his text the book, "I Will Follow Jesus." At the 11 a.m. service, Mr. Young will speak on "Amer ica, Be Thankful," using as his scriptural back ground Psalm 92:1-5 and 10-15. The chancel choir will sing, "Now Thank We All Our God!" At 6:30 p.m., the Baptist Youth Fellowship hour, a visiting team of young people from Grants Pass First Bap tist church will present a pro gram. At the evening service the pastor's message will be "What We Can Know." After glow will be held at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Basil Curtis, 1480 Skyview dr. Monday at 7:30 p.m. the church school teachers will meet. The pastor will con tinue the study of the devo tional life of the early church, Wednesday night, using Acts 3. Chancel choir will re hearse after the mid week service. Witness Subject Given for Sunday "Achieving Happiness 1 n the Family Circle" will be the topic of the public talk Sunday at 4 p.m. at the King dom hall of Jehovah's Wit nesses by D. Long, a repre sentative of the Watchtower Society. The talk will be followed by the Watchtower study on "Security During 'War of the Great Day of God the Al mighty'." The bible study Tuesday at 8 p.m. will continue in the book "Your Will Be Done on Earth." The study Is from the book of Daniel, Union Thanksgiving Planned in Medford, The annual union Thanks giving services under the auspices of the Ministerial associations in Medford and Ashland will be held Thurs day at 10 a.m. A union service in Talent is planned for Wed nesday evening. H. James Jenkins, minister of First Methodist church, Roseburg, will be the guest speaker for the 9:30 and 11 a.m. services at First Methodist church Sunday. The title of his sermon will be "From Vanity Unto the Liv ing God." This will be the second Sunday service commemor ating the 75th anniversary of the founding of the church on Nov. 15, 1885. At 11 a.m. the chancel choir will sing "Sing Alleluia Forth.1 Love Feast Planned Sunday by Brethren The Church of the Brethren, Mary and Saling sis., will ob serve the sacraments of Love Feast and communion Sunday at 7 p.m. The service Is spoken of as the agape in John chapters 13 to 18 and was observed In the early church along with the Eucharist. The sacrament is observed in most local churches twice each year, first on Maundy Thursday and again in the fall either on World Com munion Sunday or the Sun day preceding Thanksgiving The meal will be served by the Deacon and Deaconess commission with Ray Pence, chairman. The service will be conducted by the pastor, the Rev. Escil Hister. Though this service was once considered a closed com munlon It now Is open to all who are in sympathy with the service as a teaching or dinance. Jacksonville Topics Given For Sunday Jacksonville - The Rev. Rev. W. Elwood Irby, pastor of the Jacksonville Assembly of God church, has chosen for the Thanksgiving service Sun day the topic "We Thank Thcc God." The junior choir will sing "Thanking God for All and Praise." A Thanksgiving day pro gram will be given by the Sunday school during the Sunday school hour of 9:45 a.m. , Sunday at 6:45 p.m. a doc trine class will be given in the main auditorium. Pastor Irby will speak on the subject "The Last Enemy" at the 7:30 p.m. Sunday serv ice. Saturday, Nov. 19, the young people will conduct a bake sale at the Thrifty Market, Jacksonville. Following the second serv ice, and in observance of the 75lh anniversary, church members and friends will Join in a fellowship dinner in the dining hall. Mrs.' Anne Gorby is planning the pro gram of memories for the day. Mrs. Bernice Kunzman will briefly give the history of the Methodist Episcopal church from Its beginning in 1885 until 1924. Floyd Burk will continue from 1924 to 1941, including the story of the construction of the present building at 607 West Main st., which was dedicated in 1924. South Church Mrs. George Lawless will present the history of the Methodist Episcopal church, South, and Dr. Frank Roberts Sr., is planning a skit por traying activities at an offic ial board meeting in early days. Mrs. J. W. Smiley will describe early activities of the women of the church and the organizations which joined and are now known as the Woman's Society of Christian Service. Oliver P. Taylor will tell the story of the beginning of the youth groups, of the Ep worth League of former days, and the beginning of the Methodist Youth Fellowship. E. J, Neumann will present a history of the. church school, and II. C. High will describe the remodeling of the Addle Halley addition, for which he was the contractor. High was also superintendent of the junior department at that time. Mrs. Jessie Minear will describe the plans for and the building of the educational unit which was dedicated in 1952. Old Songs Songs of yesteryear will be led by Mrs. Adamson, and Mrs. Lucy Lyman, age 92 years, former soloist for the church, will sing a number for Sunday's guests. Dr, George Rosebcrry, minister, will lead the opening prayer, and closing services will be led by the Rev. Robert Dow rey, associate minister. The Senior High Methodist Youth Fellowship will go to St. Luke's Methodist church at 3 p.m. for a sub-district meeting which will last until 7 p.m. A snack supper will be served to the youth follow ing the meeting. The Older Youth Fellow ship will meet at the church at 4:30 p.m. to go to the Southern Oregon college cam pus, Ashland, where they will meet at 5 p.m. with the Wes ley Foundation group at Wes ley house for a snack supper, followed by a discussion on the authority of the Bible, led by Mr. Dowrey, The Junior High MYF will moot at the church at 5:30 p.m. for a worship service led by Miss Linda Epps. Follow ing the service, the youth will go to the home of Mr. and Mrs. James Baumcr for a platter party and refresh ments. Because of Thanksgiving there will be no chancel choir practice on Wednesday night The youth choir will practice Tuesday at 7 p.m Gold Hill Subject Told For Sunday Gold Hill - "Thanks Be To God" will be the title of the sermon by Miss Jean Cun ningham, minister of the Gold Hill Christian church Sunday at 11 a.m. Miss Pamella Freeman and Steven Andrews will assist with the sermon, which will be In observance of the Thanksgiving holiday. They are members of the church Sunday school. Vocal music will be pro vided by the Junior Girls choir during the worship service. Miss Cunningham returned to her home after attending a Northwest Missionary Con ference held In Eugene, Nov. 10 to 12. Attending were ministers and church workers from Christian Churches and Churches of Christ In the northwest. Services Ashland Ice are the Rev. Edward Bush, Free Methodist; the Rev. Harold Sanner, Church of the Nazarene; Dr. D. Klrkland West, First Presbyterian; the Rev. W. E. Martin, First Church of God; the Rev. Mel vin Dixon, St. Luke's Metho dist; and the Rev. Fred O. Sapp, Advent Christian. Broadcast The service will be broad cast over radio station KMED with the Rev. John O. Rey nolds, Westminster Presbyter ian, radio moderator. The offering at the Medford service will be divided be tween the Ministerial associa tion and the Jackson County Board of Christian Education. The Rev. Edward Wulfe- kuehler, Congregational, will give the invocation at the Ashland service with the Rev. Earl Evers, Christian Mis sionary Alliance, reading the scripture, and the Rev. B. J. Holland, First Presbyterian, the benediction. Collection taken at the Ashland service will be used for United Protestant work in Ashland. The choirs of the churches where the services will be held, will sing with visiting soloists. Talent Service The Talent service will be held at 7:30 p.m. at the Assembly of God church with A. Clark Smith, minister of the Friends church speaking. Participating in the service will be the three Talent min isters, Mr. Smith, the Rev. J. C. Arnett, host minister, and the Rev. Earnest Bell, Talent Methodist church. These annual services are open to the public. Central Church To Give Thanks The members and friends of Central Church of Christ, North Central ave. at Jackson st., will center their thinking around Thanksgiving as they meet for study and worship next week. Sunday's activities begin at 9:45 a.m. with the Bible school. Youth and adult classes will use the theme "Thanks Be To God" from Psalm 103. At the 11 a.m. worship hour, minister John V. Heb erling will speak on "Found Empty At Thanksgiving." Youth and children's discus sion groups meet at the church at 6:30 p.m. Sunday with the high schoolers hold ing a game time at 6 p.m. "The Most Precious Cargo" will be the title of the eve ning message by Mr. Heber ling. The 7:30 p.m. service, includes singing and the Lord's Supper. St. Luke's Topic Told For Sunday The Rev. Melvin Dixon, minister at St. Luke's Metho dist church, 2940 Siskiyou blvd., will preach the Thanks giving sermon on the theme "A Single Doxology," for the Sunday 11 a.m. worship serv ice. The chapel choir will sing, "Praise the Lord, Allelulal" Junior church Is conducted for children of the first four grades, and nursery is provid ed for pre-school children Church school meets at 9:45 a.m. for preliminaries and classes are conducted for all age groups from three year olds to the mature years. In lieu of the regular Meth odist Youth Fellowship meet ing, the Senior High MYF will host the Rogue Sub-Dis trict MYFs from eight Metho dist churches in a rally at St. Luke's from 3:30 to 7 p.m Sunday. The Junior MYF will not meet Sunday, but will meet at the church Saturday afternoon to go skating. The chapel choir will meet for rehearsal Tuesday at 7:30 p.m. Instead of the regular Wednesday time. Catholics To Help Clothing Drive The 12th annual Bishops' Thanksgiving Clothing collec tion will 'be held here and in all Catholic church parishes of the United States during the week of Nov. 20 to 27, according to a letter from Archbishop Edward D. How ard of Portland which was read at all archdiocesan masses last Sunday. "Last year's fine response of our parishes has led us with confidence to pledge the support of this archdiocese once again to this means of easing the suffering of our brethren in less fortunate countries," the Archbishop wrote. Most needed items, It is re ported, are blankets and bed ding, men's work clothing and shoes, clothing for infants nd children and remnants nd piece goods for areas where Western type clothing is worn. All garments should be clean and serviceable. The archdiocese of Port land contributed 7 9,0 0 0 pounds of clothing to the drive last Thanksgiving. Any contribution to this year's collection may be left at the St. Mary gymnasium during Thanksgiving week, according to an announce ment from Sacred Heart par ish spokesmen. Foursquare Church Dedication The dedication of the new Foursquare church, 2200 Rob erts rd., will be tonight at 7:30 o'clock. Guest speaker will be the Rev. Roy Mourer, Northwest district supervisor of the Foursquare churches. The Southern Oregon Four square ministers and their congregations and the Full Gospel churches in Medford and vicinity have been invited to attend the service. First services were held in the church Oct. 16. The build ing was started May 15 after the old building at Biddle rd. and East Jackson st. had to be vacated as it is the right-of-way for the proposed Pa cific freeway. Mrs. Loyd Rassmusen, su Building Fund Campaign Is Emphasis of Sermons The series of sermons em phasizing the building fund campaign will be continued Sunday morning at the First Christian church. The Rev. Glenn McKerrow, associate minister, will preach on the subject "Our Heritage" at both services. For the next three Sundays "minute mrm" will speak in all church school classes and from the pulpit concerning the need for a new building. These brief talks will be given by the men, women, and youth of the church. Sara Hinkle and Boyd Henry will speak at the two worship services Sunday. The youth choir will sing the anthem "Prayer Hymn" at the first service. Music at the second service will include a solo "Trust in the Lord" by Sara Hinkle and the anthem "Prayer of Thanksgiving" by the chancel choir. Mrs. Stephen Parrish and Mrs. McKerrow will be host esses for the coffee hour after the second service. Individual Churches Set Thanksgiving Services Wednesday A number of valley church es have scheduled Wednesday evening or Thursday morning Thanksgiving services. Central Church of Christ. 608 North Central ave., will hold their service Wednesday at 7:30 p.m. with John V. Herbling, minister, speaker. The service will close with persons who have celebrated their birthdays during the past three months being hon ored. First Baptist church. Fourth st. and Central ave., will also hold Thanksgiving services Wednesday at 7:30 p.m. It will be conducted by the Rev. Edward C. Stauffer, minister. Zion Lutheran church. Fourth st. and Oakdale ave., will hold their Thanksgiving eve service with holy com munion at 7:30 p.m. Wednes day. The Rev. H. C. Coovert, minister, will conduct the service. First Advent Christian church. West Jackson and Welch sts., will hold a Thanks giving candlelight communion at 8 p.m. Wednesday. The Rev. Fred O. Sapp, pastor, will be in charge. Thursday Services Two masses have been scheduled for the convenience of Sacred Heart C a t h o 1 ic Tonight perintendent of the Sunday school has announced that Sunday will be termed "In auguration Sunday." At that time a selection will be pre sented and a poem for the adults will be read entitled "Victory." This will be the last Sunday of the fish pond and each attending will be able to fish. MISSIONARY SPEAKS , O'Brien-George Montgom ery, a missionary to Japan for seven years, spoke recently at the O'Brien Community church. Mr. Montgomery, who illustrated his talk with col ored pictures, described the Japanese country, living con ditions there, and Christian teaching in that country. LUTHERAN TOPIC The Rev. Elvin S. Kinman, Portland, will hold a four-day series pf meetings at Ruch Community church beginning Sunday. He will speak on "Soul-Winning Through the Power of Prayer at the 11 a.m. service. At :30 p.m. he will speak on "Soul-Winning in the Light of the Near Coming of Christ." Monday through Wednes day he will speak on "Soul Winning through the Power and Guidance of the Holy Spirit and Through the Skill ful Use of the S(Word)." "Soul- winning, God's Blue-Print for the local church," will be his final topic. Each service will begin at 7:30 p.m. Mr. Kin man was one of the main speakers at the Lake of the Woods Bible conference last summer. Music To Highlight 1st Baptist Service "God's Unspeakable Gift," will be the sermon subject of the Rev. Edward C. Stauffer at First Baptist church Sun day at the 11 a.m. worship hour. The combined youth and adult choirs under the direc tion of Maynard Hadley, min ister of music, will present Thanksgiving music for the service.
