Airline Hostess Believed Crash Victim Is Alive i New York-flJPB-The funeral ,of an airline hostess killed in a highway accident near .'San Francisco was called off .today when the corpse was tentatively Identified as that of another girl. . ' . The New York girl who was to have been buried here to day was Mary Hawthorne, 26, one of four American Airlines stewardesses involved in a taxi accident in San Bruno Monday. Actually Mary is , still alive though in a coma, with, her face swathed In bandages at Peninsula Hos pital In San Mateo, Calif. ' Mistake Discovered The dead girl was Joan .Frost, 26. Philadelphia, who has been sharing an apart ment in New York with sev eral other hostesses. The mis take in identity was discov ered Wednesday night by American Airlines Engineer Robert Evans when he and ,a friend, Norma Pugh, visited "the Walter B. Cooke Funeral Home. . Miss Hawthorne's mother. who had ordered the coffin kept closed, and an uncle and aunt had remained at the fu ;neral home until Evans and Miss Pugh arrived then left for their homes. Evans told . an attendant he would like 4o have the coffin opened for Just a minute so he could slip a ring that had sentimental significance on Miss Haw thorne's finger. 'That's Not Mary' "Oh, my God! That's not Mary," exclaimed Evans when the coffin was opened. Miss Pugh also said the corpse was someone other than her friend. The airline made a check , with California police and was told the cab was destroyed and the hostesses' belongings scattered. The dead woman was identified from papers "found nearest her body on the highway at the time of the accident. ' Two of the hostesses, Sheila Murray, New York, and 1Te resa DiPlacigo, Philadelphia, are in good condition at ' "Peninsula Hospital, leaving "only Miss Frost as a possible ' alternate for the dead woman. A 5 Era Era fell fMvm isaal isaj (p UN Troops Rescue Ambush Survivor Leopoldville, The Congo -(UPD-Reinforced United Na tions troops rescued a second -survivor of the 11-man Irish patrol ambushed by rebellious Congoless tribesmen in north eastern Katanga Province, a "U.N. spokesman reported to-day. A fifth body also was recovered. The spokesman at Elisabeth ville, capital of Katanga, said sthe second survivor was found during the night by search patrols. A "badly wounded" soldier was found Wednesday. The spokesman said the bodies of the five soldiers' were taken to Albertville, headquarters for the 550-man Irish contingent to the U.N. forces in the Congo. McDonald To Speak At School Program ', . Jim McDonald, director of the Jackson county curricu- lum center, will discuss "strengthening schools for the sixties with the use of visual 'aid teaching tools" at a pro gram at Jackson school at 7:45 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 15. . The program is in connec tion with American Education Week It will follow a' class room open house for parents at 7:15 p.m. Teachers will be In their rooms for conferences with parents that evening, school officials said. The Jackson Teacher s' chorus will provide entertain ment during the program, and refreshments will be served.
