OSC Earns $8,000,
Study Reveals
; v Corvallis-The average 1D50
graduate from Oregon State
college now has three chil
dren, earns more than $8,000
a year, has lived in the same
place for most of the 10 years,
and is sold on the value of a
college education,
The information was ob
tained from a questionnaire
sent to 1,703 of the 1,900
graduates of 10SO. Answers
were received from 738, or
43 per cent, of the graduates
1 of OSC's largest class. A 1950
class reunion is planned Nov.
19 during Homecoming week
end.
Occupations for the
1980'ers, 78 per cent of whom
are veterans, range from
agronomist and attorney to
vocational guidance and vet
erinarian, according to Ted
Hal Carlson .assistant alumni
director, who" tabulated the
answers.

still single, 11 divorced and
4 widowed, Of the 735, 203
were married when attending
Oregon State. The divorce
rate of 2 per cent is far be
low the national average.

of the 1950 graduate. Compen
sation ranges from "unpaid"
for the housewife to $90,000
a year for one alumnus. Av
erage pay Is $8,000 a year.
Fifty per cent of the grad
uates have lived In the same
community for more than
five years and 26 per cent
have lived In the same urea
' for mora than 10 years.
Seventy-eight per cent of
the graduates said their edu
cation had been of "great"
benefit in their employment
while 21 per cent sold their
education helped them "mod
erately" and another 1 per
cent said "little."
Asked If their college
grades have any bearing on
their occupational success, 8
per cent said "groat," 40 per
cent "moderate," and 28 per
cent "slight," and 24 per cent.
