Police said both cars sus tained fender damage. No ci tations were issued. Sonic Boom A sonic boom was heard in the city at 7:02 p.m. last night, according to city police. A number of per sons had called the station re porting that they heard a loud explosion. Police investi gated and found the noise was caused by a jet aircraft from Kingsley field in Klamath Falls. - C 1 o t h s Damaged City firemen said that clothing was damaged in a drier fire yesterday morning at the resi dence of Joe C. Monroe, 403 West Jackson st. . Smoke Investigated Fire men, summoned to investi gate smoke in a Southern Pa cific company pumphouse at 10th and Front sts., at 12:50 a.m. today, said that the pump was stuck and that the belt was damaged by the motor. Deer Killed A small car, operated by Joanne Ralph, Williams, was wrecked this morning when it hit and killed a deer about 2V4 miles west of Ruch, according to Jackson county sheriff's deputies. Damage to both cars was said to be minor. House Burglary - Ethel L. Fjcld, 1041, Winchester ave., told city police Wednesday that her house was broken into sometime between April and November while she was out of town. Missing, she said, is a locket and gold chain set and a ring. In Philadelphia - Mr. and Mrs. Pete Banco and son left recently to make their home in Philadelphia, Pa. Banco is attending school at the U. S. Naval base there. Mrs. Banco is the former Miss Bobbie Bradford. Police Car Damaged - An Oregon state police sedan was damaged Wednesday in an in cident on Blackwell hill about 5:35 p.m. According to police. Officer William Aveline stop ped a pickup truck operated by Oren Ross Campbell, 71 of Grants Pass, for no tail lights. The police car was parked be hind the pickup when the truck rolled back into the po lice car, damaging the front grill. Reports showed that Campbel's vehicle had prev iously been in an accident which damaged the tail lights. No citation was issued. Word Received - Word has been received here of the death of Roy Furch in St, Paul, Minn. Among survivors are sisters and brothers, Mrs Ernest Brown, Mrs. Rufus Ed wards, Harry Furch, Ben Furch, Art Furch and Allie Furch, all of Medford. Funeral services will be held Friday in St. Paul. MEDLEY Funeral services for Claude Clement Medley, 80, of 1294 Coghill lane, who died in a local hospital Wednesday, will be held at Perl Funeral home Saturday at 10:30 a.m. The Rev. Robert Bridge of the First Presbyterian church will officiate. Committal will be in the Jacksonville cemetery. Mr. Medley was born May 11, 1880, in Cottage Grove, and had been a resident of this area for 36 years. Sally, Amy and Moe, the Air Force moustronauts that flew almost 700 miles into space at a speed of 17,000 miles an hour (Oct. 13) and lived to squeak about it, now are doing just that back at home base. "Home for the mousy space pioneers is the Space Research Institute at the School of Aviation Medi cine, Brooks Air Force base, Tex. Radiation data recorded on the high-flying mice were re vealed to Science Service in an exclusive meeting with the mice and Dr. Hans Clam man, the space Institute's chief of space medicine. Their exposure to the dangerous ra diation in the lower Van Al len bell, one of the known hazards of space flight for men and animals, has been evaluated. 400 Fatal Dos "It is below ten roentgens for sure," Clamman said. Four hundred roentgens is t h c ex posure dose fatal to 50 per cent of men and animals. The mice were in the area of intense cosmic radiation for two minutes only. Space sci entists have suggested that the danger of exposure to high levels of radiation in the Van Allen belts could be reduced by swift passage through them. The three space mice have now proved that this is so. The radiation story was re corded on miniature instru ments, tiny specially prepared glass rod "dosimeters," each one-quarter of an inch long and one-tenth of an inch in diameter, and sensitive to ra diation from one roentgen to 10,000 roentgens. No Effects None of the mice has so far shown any of the graying effects on their black fur that would indicate severe radia tion exposure. All physical responses, heart beat, respira tion, appetite, blood pressure, appear normal. They behave just like any other nori. al healthy, frisky mice. Six people attended. Purpose of the meeting was enrollment for the new year and election of officers. Mrs. Franek announced that achievement night would held Nov. 15. Our next meeting will be Nov. 12 at the home of Mrs Franek. We are asked to bring material to sew and our port able sewing machines. Joyce Anderson, Reporter The county court' may ac tivate a water safety commit tee to advise on enforcement of special boating regulations. The state marine board wrote the county court advis ing it to form such a commit tee, County Judge Earl Mill er said yesterday. The county court had di rected Sheriff Joe Walsh to form such a committee last summer for establishing wa ter safety regulations for Howard Prairie reservoir, Miller explained. The group consisted of representatives of sailing, water-skiing, fisher men and skin-diving groups. egulaiioni Established Although the state legisla ture established such regula tions along with the marine board at its last session many counties did not enforce the regulations since they did not understand them. Miller said. They must be enforced next season. . The marine board letter al so replied to a letter sent it by the county court answer- ng questions on use of marine license funds. Such question naires were sent out to all counties. The county court had re plied it put the approximately $8,000 received into the gen eral fund. It had budgeted $3,500 so the sheriff's office could purchase a patrol boat nd equipment. It also budg eted $8,000 for adding two deputies for the marine pa trol work.
