He's made 37 tackles this fall, tops for the Black Tornado, playing middle guard and line backer. A fullback for offense before this year, Funston was converted to a guard. But, he was briefly in the backfield last Friday when his defensive platoon took over on offense against Klamath Falls. Tonight Funston sees service against the Reno Huskies on the Medford field. (Landis photo) Top Reno Tailback Returns For Action In Medford Fracas Reno, Nev.-(Spccial to the Mail Tribune) - Reno High School's Huskies, with their number one tailback returned to action but with three other key men on the banged-up list now, left here this morning for Medford, Ore., and prob ably their toughest game of the 1960 lootball season. That one will be played in Reno on Veterans Day, Nov. 11 Sparks' lone loss in five games was by one point, 14 13, to the 6-0 Carson City Senators of Northern ' AA conference. However, Reno's problem is two weeks closer. Southern Oregon confer ence's only counting football game is scheduled Saturday night and features two out-of- town contingents in battle at the Medford High school sta dium. Crater will be host here to Grants Pass at 8 p.m. Grants Pass will carry an at least slightly favored role but Comet spirits reportedly high for the hassle in which they aim for their first grid win in history over the Cave men. "These Kids act like they want to win this ball game," said Crater high mentor Leon ard Warren. "They're pretty determined." He pronounced the Comets in good physical condition ex cept for some minor hurts. Wayne Martin, of course, has a finger cut inpury which limits him ,lo offensive full back duties. He's a top Comet defensive player. But, a Com et practice highlight this week has been the play of defensive safety and reserve fullback Gary Wald.
