Crosswhite, and Dr. Edwin Gordy in the current issue of the Journal of the American Medical Association. Chromo somes, located in he nucleus of the cell, contain genes which determine hereditary 4B Chromo.omei Each normal human being has 46 chromosomes, 22 pairs of autosomes and two sex chromosomes. Half of the chromosomes come from the mother and half from the fa ther at the time of conception. There have been previous reports of an extra chromo some among the smallest chromosomes in persons with mongolism, a specific type of mental retardation, and of an extra chromosome otjriedium size in children wltMongonl- tal defects. .
