Families value the feeling of security that comes from an attractive home, and they also enjoy the deep satisfactions of knowing they can take pride In the ap pearance of their homes. All this is reflected in the great diversity of furniture and furnishings offered for fall. There are many furni ture styles and periods to from, although the dominant trend seems to have evolved from the 60s liking for mix ing designs. Blend Harmoniously No longer is one style, one color, one kind of wood advo cated as "the" home fashion of the season. Taking a cre ative outlook, designers blend Influences from many coun tries and many centuries, so that contemporary furniture takes on an international feeling.' Varying designs, ranging in inspiration from the ancient Orient to modern Scandinavia, o harmoniously together. Furniture in the traditional spirit shows the contemporary effect of Twentieth century functionalism. There are fresh, and more luxurious, treatments for Early Ameri can furniture, in pine and cherry as well as maple. While function goes hand in hand with beauty, the pri mary demand is for dignity of design. Drs. Jacob W. Getzels and Philip W. Jackson, both of the University of Chicago, told the American Sociologi cal Association's annual meet ing here that they had found one group of superior stu dents high In IQ but low in creativity. A second group of superior students was lower in IQ but high in creativity. Although both groups did well in school, the Tcsearchers found teachers preferred the high IQ students to the creative ones. Career Choices Different The career choices of the two groups, however, were quite different. The high IQ's chose more conventional oc cupations. The family life of the two groups was also different. The educational level of both parents tended to be higher for the high IQ's than for the high creatives, and there was a greater age difference be tween the parents of the high IQ group.
