Selective Service Has New Hours New office hours effective Tuesday, Sept. 6, for the Lo cal Board 17, Selective Serv ice system, Medford, have re cently been announced. The office will be open from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., Monday through Friday, at 33 North Riverside ave. . Men 18 years old who have not registered, or college stu dents wishing a deferment for the coming school year, are reminded to contact the local office to prevent induc tion and insure a deferment. Schedule Changes Made in Air Line Service in Medford Air lines serving Medford have announced schedule changes, most of which be came effective Sept. 1. Pacific Air lines inaugurat ed its jet - powered service here recently with the start of F-27 "Jethawk" flights from Medford. The Jethawk daily flight is in addition to the regularly scheduled Sac ramento valley local flights via Eureka-Areata and Cres cent City. The service will provide direct routes from Medford to San Francisco through Redding, Chico and Sacramento. The southbound Flight 755 leaves Medford at 1:50 p.m., arriving in San Francisco at 5:12 p.m. The northbound service arrives in Medford at 1:25 p.m., coming from San Francisco. Sentember Schedule The September schedule also provides new times for the additional daily service between Medford, Crescent City, Eureka-Arcata, and Sac ramento valley cities through to, Oakland and San Francis co. Kyle, Manager leave here at 4 p.m. and ar rive in San Francisco at 9:58 p.m. Northbound local flights arrive here at 11:06 a.m. Kenneth Cook, United Air lines local manager, said slight schedule changes would become effective Sept. 13. He noted that the northbound flight 275 would be scheduled earlier in the evening. No major changes are ex pected, he added. Flight. Cancelled West Coast spokesmen have announced the cancellation of several flights from Medford, and the start of new service. Cancelled are a 10:20 a.m. flight to Klamath Falls; an evening schedule to Seattle: a morning service to Portland, and a flight from Portland. Flight 41 will arrive from Portland at 10:08 a.m. -daily, and proceed to Klamath Falls to connect with points south. This flight originally termi nated here. West Coast reports they have offered their F-27 jet service locally for over a year now, and no schedule changes are expected. Dr. Griffith Subject Of Magazine Article Dr. A. A. Griffin and his family of historic Jacksonville are subject of a story in the September issue of "Health," national magazine published by the American Osteopathic association. The article, entitled "Life in a Ghost Town," tells how the Griffins like living in the picturesque old mining town, where Dr. Griffin has his prac tice. It also relates some of the legends and stories about the town. Accompanying photographs show the Griffins exploring the town and some general scenes of Jacksonville. 'The Griffins, having lived there nine years, would hate to move anywhere else," the article says. "An ordinary modern town would seem ra ther dull pitted against the scent of wagon train days that J'ville still carries." The story and photos are by Ellis Lucia, Portland writer. Co-Terminal Setup Backed By Mayor Portland - (UPD - Mayor Terry Schrunk has announced he will testify In support of co terminal status for the Portland International airport at a hearing before the Civil Aeronautics board In Wash ington. D. C, next week. Schrunk said he would i urge adoption of a CAB ex aminer's recommendation that Portland be given co-terminal . status with other leading pa cific coast cities, at a final hearing Wednesday and i Thursday before the CAB. A favorable CAB ruling would permit flights to the Orient to originate from Port land, and would place the city on a terminal status for Great Circle route flights to the Far East and central Pacific route flights to the Orient. At present, travelers to the Orient must board direct flights at Seattle or San Francisco.
