Also having a number of years of professional experi ence to his credit is Ivie, who received his bachelor's of edu cation degree from Western Montana in 1946 and his mas ters degree from Colorado State at Greeley in 1953. Schriever, head of the Air Research and Devel opment Command, said Fri day the Air Force plans to launch a monkey into orbit in a Discoverer satellite in Oc tober. He made official previous predictions that America's first effort to put a living be ing in orbit would be made with the Discoverer XVI. Earlier plans to orbit life in the Discoverer XV in the next two or three weeks were changed because the spider monkey, weighing four or five pounds, and the capsule Potato Crop Hurt By Severe Frost Yreka, Calif. -UPD- A se vere frost damaged 70 per cent of the 1900 potato crop in Tula Lake basin Tuesday night and caused more than SI million damage, according to a "conservative" estimate by Agricultural Commissioner Jess R. Grisham. Grisham said Thursday the figure includes only the Sis kiyou county area of the basin. Only 30 per cent of the 4,500 yacrcs in the county were free of damage as tem peratures dropped in some pockets to as low as 21 de grees in the worst frost since 1945. , Grisham said his estimate, which he termed conserva tive, was based on last year's crop, valued at $2,107,950 on 3, BOH acres, plus a seed crop harvest of $655,200 on 1,092 acres. COUNTERFEITER HELD Kuala Lumpur, Malaya IUPD - Kwan Fu Um was held to day on charges of counter feiting millions of Malayan dollars.
