One couple, niversary and the third, Mr. and Mrs. Carl R. Ludwig, Mr. and Mrs. Phillip Niel Sweet, had been married only their golden wedding anniversary. Unusual Reception Given For Three Medford Qouples An unusual social event held In Medford Saturday, August 13, at Girls Com munity club wag a reception which celebrated a wedding, a silver wedding anniversary and golden wedding anniver sary. Honored were Mr. and Mrs. Phillip Niel Sweet (Coleen Kay Nicodemus) whose wed ding had been earlier that day at First Presbyterian church; the bride's parents, Mr. and Mrs. Rex Nicodemus, 1122 West Fourth street, who were celebrating their silver wed ding anniversary, and the bridegroom's grand parents, Mr. and Mrs. Carl R. Ludwig, 511 Austin street, on their golden anniversary. Wedding Held At Church Here The ceremony which wed ded Miss Nicodemus and Mr. Sweet waa held at First Pres byterian church at two o'clock In the afternoon. Dr. D. Kirk land West officiated, and about 200 guests were present. The bridegroom is a son of Mr. and Mrs. Marshall B. Sweet, 649 South Ivy street, Medford. i Otis Swisher was soloist, j and Mrs. Robert Sheldon was j at the church organ. Pink and white gladiolus and pink dahlias arranged In large bas' kets provided a setting for the wedding party. ' 1 The bride's gown was of white brocaded satin fashion ed princess style with short sleeves and sweetheart neck line. Her finger-tip veil was held by a heart-shaped crown and she carried pink rosebuds. The bride wore a necklace of rock crystal beads which had been worn by the bride groom's mother at her wed ding. Mrs. Richard Edmonds was the bride's only attendant. She wore a full-skirted gown of rose colored chiffon design ed with scoop neckline, and carried a bouquet of white rosebuds. Mr, Nicodemus gave his daughter in marriage, and Bruce C. Matheny was best man for his cousin. Stanley Sweet, brothe- of the bride groom and Rex Joel Nicode mus, brother of the bride, seat ed guests. At the triple reception which followed, Mrs. James Wehren cut the wedding cake, using for the first piece a knife loaned by Mrs. Donald Patterson, friend of the bride groom's family. The remain der of the cake was cut with a knife which was a wedding gift to the couple from Mr. and Mrs. George Osier, friends of the bride's family, and which was engraved with the couple's names and the wedding dale. Mrs. Jack Cook took charge of the guest book, and Mrs. Harold Koehler served punch. For the wedding and the receptions the bride's mother wore a sheath gown of blue lace over silver blue satin and a corsage of pink gladiolus. The bridegroom's mother was ttired in a silk sheath of floral print in beige and sad dle brown and her flowers were yellow gladiolus. The rehearsal dinner which preceded the wedding was held at North's cafe August 12, with the bride's parents as hosts. The ncwlyweds traveled to the Oregon coast for their wedding trip, the bride wear ing a blue and green pastel floral chiffon dress with pink corsage. The couple will live at Kennowick, Wash., where Mr. Sweet Is a teacher with the Keenewlck school district. The bride attended Medford High school and Whitworth college, Spokane, Wash., and has been a clerk-stenographer for the California Oregon Power company. ft ;w Kr j;f iyf, h - , Mr. Sweet attended Med ford High school, Southern Oregon college and Whit worth college. Ludwigs Honored On Anniversary Mr. and Mrs. Ludwig's sons and daughters, with their wives and husbands, were hosts for the reception in their honor. They are Mr. and Mrs. Wallace R. Ludwig, Rich mond, Calif.; Mason H. Lud wig, Eugene; Mr, and Mrs. Ernst V. Ludwig, Whittler, Calif.; Mr. and Mrs. Orval W. (Jessie Ludwig) Matheny, Jacksonville, and Mr. and Mrs. Marshall B. (Charlotte Ludwig) Sweet, Medford. Before the reception, the Ludwigs attended the wed ding of Miss Nicodemus to their grandson, Phillip Sweet. The Ludwig's anniversary cake was baked and decorated by Mrs. Orval Matheny, and was served by Mrs. Dan Evans. Mrs. Evans used a knife loaned by Mrs. Scott Davis. Mrs. Thomas Brauner served the punch, and Mrs. John Davies took charge of the guest book. Assisting with the gifts were Mrs. D. C. IT'S A WONDERFUL STORE 4 -ir' vef.v.. Stoner, a granddaughter of the Ludwigs, and Mrs. B. C. Matheny, a granddaughter-in-law. Mrs. Fred Lawrence and Mrs. Victor Birdseye also assisted with the recep tion. For her grandson's wedding and the reception, which was planned as a surprise for the couple, Mrs. Ludwig wore a floral print dress in beige and gold tones and a corsage of gold-colored tuberous be gonias. Among the 200 guests at the reception for the Ludwigs were Sherrie, Sandra and Curtis, children of the W. R. Ludwigs; Rick and Kella, chil dren of the E. V. Ludwigs; Mr. and Mrs. B. C. Matheny, Craig and David; Mr. and Mrs. D. C. Stoner, Dan, Pat and Brian, Jacksonville; Mr. and Mrs. P. N. Sweet, Stanley Sweet, Medford. Also here were J. Robert Blakely, Denver, Colo., a grandnephew of Carl Ludwig and Mrs. Betty J. Strand, Cot taRe Grove, Ore. Three of the guests at the event had attended the Lud wig's 2Bth wedding annivers ary reception. They were nrsv;wfc'vi;, Mrs. Maude Lovell, Mrs. Irene Shirley and Mrs. Frances Culy. The Ludwigs were married at Bayfield, Colo., Augusf 13, 1910. Mrs. Ludwig was the former Lola May Hammond. Attending the couple were Frank Ludwig, brother of the bridegroom, and Miss Iza Akers, now Mrs. Frank Lud wig. The Rev. W. J. Mills of ficiated. The couple lived in Colorado until 1923 when they moved to California, and from there to Medford in 1924. Mr. Ludwig retired several years ago after work ing for 31 years with the Med ford Water department. Reception Given For Medford Pair Mr. and Mrs. Nicodemus. the third couple to be honor ed at the unusual event, have lived In Medford since 1935. They were married August 11, 1935, in Oberlin, Kan., at the home of the bridegroom's parents. The early morning ceremony was read by the Rev. J. D. Bowles, and attend ing the couple were Mrs. Fred Otes, sister of the bride, lwv ill jJLTCjCT Mrs. Phillip Californians Visit . Tiller-Drew-Mr. and Mrs. Ray Ledford, Corona, Calif., arrived Wednesday for a visit with Mr. and Mrs. Howard Midkiff. The Midkiffs and Ledfords have been friends since childhood days in Il linois. James Hall of Los Altos, Calif., is visiting in the home of his sister, Mrs. Jack Green man. and Carl Nicodemus, brother of the bridegroom. Mr. Nicodemus Is employed by The California - Oregon Power company here and his wife is attending Southern Oregon school of Practical Nursing. She will be gradu ated In September. Miss Nicodemus planned the reception which honored her parents. Mrs. George Osier cut the silver anniversary cake for Mr. and Mrs. Nicodemus. Mrs. Rodney Johnston and Mrs. Kenneth Wonderly assisted. Niel Sweet Illinois Valley Club Names New Officers Illinois Valley-A number of officers were elected at a re cent meeting of the Illinois Valley Federated W o m e n's club of the Oregon Federa tion. The group met August 9 -at the home of Mrs. Gene Denning, pi-esitlent. Mrs. Arthur Kellert wai, elected parliamentarian; Mrs. John Spitz, secretary; Mrs. Helen Eastman, public educa tion, scholarship and library chairman; Mrs. B. S. Day, home life department; Mrs. Edith Henrick, treasurer; Mrs. Harry Hartwell, public af fairs; Mrs. C. H. Tucker, con servation; Mrs. Eldon Mull, literature, drama and music; and Mrs. Fred Salvage, pub licity. X Plans were made for the yearbook. The next regular meeting will be held in September. Senior Citizens To Hold Public Concert In Park A public concert by the Senior Activity Center or chestra will be presented in the Library park Tuesday, August 23, at 7:30 p.m. Ed ward Root, retired county mu sic teacher, is directer. . The orchestra began as a music class at the center in the spring of 1959, when Mr. Root volunteered his services and Mrs. Ena Foss loaned a piano. Mrs. Maude Arnold has been pianist and assistant teacher since the group was organized. Former musicians, with or without instruments and oth ers who wished to learn to play an instrument, were in vited to join in the weekly classes. The orchestra ' has grown from four to 18 pieces and has played at several community affairs. Its last ap pearance was at the Medford Linda Felkner Is Bride Of Warren Stearns Miss Linda Felkner, daugh ter of Mr. and Mrs. Noble Felkner, 2095 Lotus lane, Medford, became the bride of Warren Stearns in a cere mony held July 22 at Park Wedding chapel, Reno, Nev. The bridegroom is a son of Mr. and Mrs. Guy Stearns, 3547 Delta Waters road, Med ford. i The bride wore a gown of white lace over satin and car ried pink and white carna tions. Attending the couple were Mr. and Mrs. Lloyd Hart, Butte Falls. After a wedding trip to Lake Tahoe, the newlyweds are making their home at 322 South Orange street. Mr. Stearns is employed by the U.S. Forest service. A shower was given the couple August 9 at the home of the bride's parents by the congregation of the Open Bible Standard church. The Rev. and Mrs. Virgil Harsh, pastors, presented the couple with a heart-shaped cake, a gift from the congre gation. Mrs. Robert Stafford took charge of the entertainment for the evening. The bride groom's parents, his brothers, Michael and Robert, and his sister and brother-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Stanley Martin, were among the guests.
